Fresh operation in Afghanistan: How fruitful it will be?
United States has increased its facilities in Afghanistan moving troops from Iraq. The main objective of this latest round of operation is to destroy all the remaining Taliban strongholds in that region. Neighboring Pakistan is already started its offence to amputate Taliban from Pakistani soil. U.S. unmanned aircraft Drone is seemingly assisting Pakistani forces when and where it necessary.
In recent weeks U.S. drone aircraft has continued its missile attack in some Taliban controlled region in Pakistan which thought to have been killed a number of Taliban militants. Although neither Pakistan nor U.S. have admits any such collaboration.
So Talibans are now facing difficult challenge ahead of them. But they are well experienced of such attacks. Previous assaults were not able to stop Taliban to breed. May be this time they are not ruling any country like before they did in Afghanistan but their growing influence is very alarming. World is much focused on Pakistan and Afghanistan but Taliban have found another safe haven at the horn of Africa.
One of the poorest nations in the world Somalia is now providing protection for these Taliban guerrillas. Somalia´s condition is nearly similar to Afghanistan when Taliban insurgency first noticed in there. Their government has little control outside the capital Mogadishu. Islamic militias are taking full chance of this drawback. Recent upsurge of violence is clearly having an indication of government´s inability to disarm them. U.S. sends tons of weapon to Somalia to help its government to fight back with the guerrillas. Till now no report of any improvement is monitored.
United States is hoping for a significant change in Afghanistan. But the fact is, Afghanistan is a place where victory is indefinable. U.S. is thinking to secure that. How easy this task is? Well, whatever you think it is not easy for sure. Afghan´s are traditionally Bedouin community. Foreign troops have never found it easy to work with these people. British have previous experience here. Russians went home from Afghanistan without any significant result after fighting there for nine years. Will history repeat it-self again?
In an interview with BBC one British secretary said they are confident and they are seeing progress in Afghanistan. He admits progress is slow but they are on course. U.S. led NATO forces is present in Afghanistan for several years. At one stage progress was showing at the horizon. But recent increase attack on NATO forces set a doubt on how much progress has really been made.
One interesting fact is, in this recent U.S. led operation they faced fewer resistance from the Taliban forces. May be they escaped from the region for this moment and later will comeback. Taliban´s have suffered some loses those are apparently not much significant.
This is the first major offensive against Taliban by the Obama administration. They must want the war to finish within shortest possible time. It is important for the Obama administration to reach on its goal as soon as possible.
