Nation of Anxiety

Alaa Nassir Al Abadi
The children of every nation are raised with regard for history, hopes, and aspiration of their own nation. The children of Arab are also raised with the same regard for history…great old history, but not so impressive modern one. The Arab children grow up and mature with a bitter feeling of failure, they grow up with grudge inside. Children in Arab schools, especially during the sixties, seventies, and eighties were taught to hate a mutual enemy, an enemy that have taken their land, scoff at them and defeated them many times, they are defeated but cannot do anything about that. This education policy was generalized throughout the Arab world "to keep the cause in minds", it was a very bad policy that planted defeatism in every Childs mind, one great use for it, was to make the Arab people accept the rule of tyrants that are in every country of the Arab world.

Arabs in general have what we may call "the superhero syndrome", they are waiting for a strong leader, a good tyrant that would correct all troubles and bring back their dignity. They saw Gammal Abdulnassir as the awaited savior, but when he failed, they retracted and despised themselves; one poet described it as "a nation scorned at by other nations". Saddam Hussein tried to play the same role, but proofed catastrophic for his people, and the Arabs. Nevertheless, the majority of Arabs looked upon Saddam Hussein as a superhero failed by his people, a sarcastic view that can only reflect their own absurdity and naivety. Saddam Hussein was the worst tyrant in modern history, he despised his people and humiliated them, there is no reason whatsoever to consider Saddam Hussein as a hero.

Defeatism kills creativity, for Arabs to regain their dignity and glory, they must fight defeatism, this can only be possible if they replaced creativity for defeatism. No Arab tyrant would allow this to happen, Arab tyrants thrive on "Superhero Syndrome", they blow air in this whenever they sense that there is a whiff of realization for reality in any Arab society.

Arabs should realize the importance of the community against the importance of regime, they should educate youngsters about Palestine but without grudge when they cannot provide answers, they should believe in humanity and love for all nations rather than the mistrust they have against everybody in the world and thinking that they are conspiring against them.
