Mogadishu - June 2009: A New Moon at the Summer Solstice. The Monologues of the Sentimental Somali

Dr. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis
Yesterday night, in the absence of moonlight, Aden walked for a while in the darkness by the seaside; Mogadishu looked so scary and so different that the infinite sea which embraces the Somali capital monopolized Aden´s attention and admiration.

Somali youngster with no family, as they have all been killed by the barbaric invaders before two years, Aden was convinced that yesterday night an answer to his questions about the profound Somali Drama would finally be given.

A life at edge of Death, an immense happiness lost, thousands of hopes proven vain, so many and so great expectations frustrated……

Aden could not explain – if anything needs an explanation when values are being disrespected by tragically deceived people who simply draw their own self destruction.

Aden could not remember – if anything is to be recalled from those faraway happy years, when childhood had promised a very different life, a human and attractive climax, and eternal peace of mind and heart.

And Aden could not see – because there was nothing to be seen in front of him; he stood at the edge of embankment. The vertiginous sea moisture and the lachrymal eyes of the Sentimental Somali opened then a new great dimension of true vision and critical existence.

A splendid sphere appeared to immediately encompass everything; within its infinite space, there was no distinction between the nocturnal sky and the abysmal sea of Somalia. It was now so clear to Aden that the Earth has value as long as we stand thereon determined to capture the infinite perspective of a vision.

The Earth had nearly disappeared under Aden´s feet because Somalia almost did not exist.

Far in the darkened horizon of the East, a rain of stars was falling in the sea, whereas waves and sea storms were exploding high in the skies and up to the firmament.

An inconceivable image of an exotic majesty emerged then from the depths of the sea to appear in front of Aden; the manifestation of the Great Lady was accompanied by a myriad of sparkling stars that, along with the indescribable emerging beauty, were coming to surface to show the Mankind that they were always present….

To light a candle for a moment and get then extinguished …..

To illuminate the dead hearts of today´s people and then vanish to other universes……

To cast an appearance of luminescence on a corner of the Tomb that is nowadays called Earth and then pursue their flight to other purposes……

Yet, these stars were not unknown to Aden; he knew them, he had met them, he was acquainted with them. These were the Somalis who gave their lives for Somalia, for the unutterable paradise of the African Horn, for Value and Virtue, for Love and Honour, for Justice and for Somaliness.

As Aden recognized the stars, he was finally able to identify the emerging Great Lady, Somalia Infinite…..

Then, the Soul of the Paradise, addressed Aden´s valor and with a transcendental voice confessed to him:

If you love me,

I will steal the Colour of the Fire and a White Cloth

Both of us to redraw what Life has ever been;

If you love me,

There will never be a grey day for us to live,

You will hold me within and take me to all festive harbours …….

But if all this, which seems a crazy dream, becomes finally a scream,

But if all this and what I have wished for will not finally come to pass,

There will be a tribulation;

The Light will turn to Darkness,

All the Light will vanish……

Because perhaps the entire world for me is …. You

Only You!

If you love me….

If you love me, you will only be speaking the Words of the Heart;

You will hold me within your embrace and take me to festive harbours …….

If you love me,

I will steal the Colour of the Fire – only if you love me,

If you love me,

There will be no boundary for us,

Only if you love me. …..

Aden moved his head and realized that it was morning; daylight was blessing the Horn again!

And yet, the Day of Somalia was a mere reflection of Aden´s Nocturnal Vision at the edge of Mogadishu.

And Somalia´s predilection for her child reflected only a tiny portion of Aden´s immense ardor for the Paradisiacal Horn that foreign soldiers and traitors have undeservedly turned to a hellish jail.

Aden will fight today again – along with his compatriots and co-warriors; like all the young Somalis, he is ready to become an ever sparkling star emanating from the emerging Great Lady.

The Victory of Somalia will be Humanity´s Sublime Bliss – and this is what we all owe to Aden and his heroic compatriots.

But Somalia´s ruin will be Humanity´s definite death – and that´s why, fighting for Somalia, Aden in fact struggles for all of us.

Far from our small, mean, futile and valueless world, Light is eternal on Aden´s eyes; and this is a good reason for our world to turn and help Aden as our hopes hinge on the young and solitary, patriotic and sentimental Somali fighter who so much envisioned about all of us in the miraculously illuminated, yet dark, night of the Mogadishu Summer Solstice.

Picture:

A jewel of the southern sky, the Great Carina Nebula, aka NGC 3372, spans over 300 light-years, one of our galaxy´s largest star forming regions. Like the smaller, more northerly Orion Nebula, the Carina Nebula is easily visible to the naked eye, though at a distance of 7,500 light-years it is some 5 times farther away. This stunning telescopic view reveals remarkable details of the region´s glowing filaments of interstellar gas and dark cosmic dust clouds. The Carina Nebula is home to young, extremely massive stars, including the still enigmatic variable Eta Carinae, a star with well over 100 times the mass of the Sun. Eta Carinae is the bright star left of the central dark notch in this field and just below the dusty Keyhole Nebula (NGC 3324).
