This book is one the best I have ever read in the modern era.

The Shipwreck of a Nation is exceedingly well done. My highest gratitude to the author,Peter Nennhaus for his work and his honest portrayal. There are no apologies and no indignation, just honest history.

At the beginning Peter Nennhaus was born into a normal family for its time and his experiences are quite typical for a young man growing up and becoming a productive member of his society. He spent summers in the country with his family. He went to school. He was active in society. His father went to work every day. His older brothers enlisted in the army. He thought God was on his and his nationīs side in a turbulent time. Is this a story of the United States or another western nation? No, it is the true tale of growing up in Germany in the 1930īs.

A reader at first might think of all Germans at this time being all monsters or devils. This was not the case. Germany had an exceedingly high literacy rate with a long history of intellectual contributions to the arts and sciences. How could this have happened that such a base and vile regime have come to power?

Peter Nennhaus just describes his experience and includes well researched and unbiased descriptions of the progress of history that expertly interweave with his tale of growing up in such a time. The author leaves judgments up to the reader. He just tells his story.

Few cautionary tales have been as well written and backed up as "Shipwreck of a Nation." This reviewer cites this work as a cautionary tale as history has a tendency to repeat itself if it is not learned and studied. Arrogant thoughts that īthis canīt happen hereī always ring hollow in the harsh light of history. This book is most highly recommended for students, scholars, workers, anyone. Never forget or think yourself or your land immune from something like this.
