Dangerous Intersections Prone to Car Accidents in Tempe Arizona

Mark Breyer
Tempe, Arizona is a fantastic city and, although some may perceive it as just a college town, it is much, much more. Tempe is in fact Arizona's sixth-largest city. As many know, it hosts many entertainment and sports activities. It is known for being the home of the Anaheim Angels during spring training every year. The well-known P.F. Chang's Rock and Roll Arizona Marathon takes place in Tempe, Arizona. In fact, even the Iron Man Arizona Triathlon occurs in the city. However, that is just the beginning of the many offerings that Tempe, Arizona provides. The Pac 10's Arizona State University Sun Devils reside and of course compete here. In addition, the Insight Bowl competes every year in Tempe, Arizona, bringing in teams from around the country to compete in that prestigious bowl game.

However, the fact that Tempe is beloved by so many people and has such a dense population also leads to another, unfortunate side of the equation. That is, according to some published reports, Tempe, Arizona intersections include some of the most dangerous intersections in the state. In fact, five of the top 11 most dangerous intersections throughout the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area exist in Tempe, Arizona. (It should be noted that Scottsdale, Arizona did not provide the numbers for the reports and therefore could have intersections that are equally or more dangerous, that was not available as it was apparently not made available during the investigation.)

The most dangerous intersection according to some reports in the City of Tempe is located at Rural Road and University Drive. In fact, by this count it would be the third-most dangerous intersection in the city having accounted for 120 motor vehicle collisions. Also, Broadway Road and Price Road meet in Tempe, Arizona and in just one year's time had 112 motor vehicle accidents.

However, dangerous intersections are actually found throughout the city. For instance, at Mill and Southern Avenues, there have been a large number of accidents and it placed among the top ten most dangerous intersections in the city. Also, at Apache Boulevard and Price Road there were 93 car accidents in just one year's time. Also in Tempe, Arizona, and equally dangerous, the intersection of McClintock and Broadway Road had 93 traffic accidents.

Now, this reportedly large number of motor vehicle accidents in Tempe, Arizona does not in any way take away from the beauty of the city or what the city has to offer. However, it certainly raises questions about the safety precautions drivers are taking, or failing to take, throughout the city. Fortunately, most traffic accidents in Tempe undoubtedly involve little or no injury to the people involved. On the other hand, it is inevitable with such a high number of traffic accidents in such a densely populated city that there will be very serious accidents in Tempe, Arizona.
