THE MAYORS OF SEVERAL BIG CITIES IN FRANCE REQUEST REDUCING ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS EXPOSURES LEVELS
Michel Destot, president of the Association of Mayors of Big French Cities,
(Association des Maires de Grandes Villes de France - AMGVF) is requesting that upon completion of the studies, the government quickly announces specific measures that will provide a clear message to the public.
The Association des Maires de Grandes Villes de France ( AMGVF) is fully aware that the residents and their action groups favor taking their case to court, that the phone companies are quite adamant in regard to improving existing agreements or signing new ones and, without prejudging the results
of health and scientific assessments which are expected in the fall, is making the following demand:
In order to see if it is financially and technically possible, city-wide experiments of reducing the areas of exposures to electromagnetic fields, should be started this summer.
These experiments should be managed by the Government which must allocate adequate human and financial resources.
These experiments should also bring together, action groups, residents, phone companies and local officials in order to continue the public debate initiated by the government.
The AMGVF also would like to see that new methods and protocols of measuring Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) be tested.
The city of Grenoble ( in the French Alps) which has already announced its availability for such experiment conducted by the Government, within the framework of the Association de Maires de Grandes Villes de France (AMGVF), would like to see this clearly stated by the government, following the presentation of the report of the Round Table of may 25, 2009, on cell phone towers.
