Gunmen Storm Thailand Mosque,Local Iman killed

Gunmen have stormed a mosque in Narathiwat province in Southern Thailand on Monday killing at least 10 and Injuring 20 others.

Police have reported that five or six armed gunmen stormed the mosque located in the Cho-ai-rong district and opened fire on those inside for evening prayer.A local imam is one of the dead along with nine worshippers.Twenty others are amongst the wounded.The attack is believed to be carried out by armed Muslim separatists although no one has yet to claim responsibility for the attack.

Hours earlier nine soldiers were wounded in an ambush when there convoy came under attack from a roadside remote detonated bomb and small arms fire,the state-run Thai News Agency reported.

Just three days ago Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva met with top military officials to discuss the government's plans for dealing with the violence that has plagued this area of the country.

Army Commander in Chief Gen Anupong Paochinda is believed on his way to the mosque were the massacre happened.
