TOPEKA—The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Kansas State Lodge has presented U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) with the "Kansas Legislator of the Year" award in recognition of his legislative efforts supporting law enforcement officers. Tiahrt was given the award Saturday in Manhattan, Kan., during the 35th annual Kansas FOP conference. Tiahrt spoke to officers at the conference providing a legislative update, including the status of the Tiahrt trace data amendment that has come under attack by the Obama administration.

"Congressman Tiahrt has a solid record of supporting issues that are important to the FOP and his constituents," said Kansas State Lodge President K.C. Blodgett. "He has repeatedly demonstrated his support for the law enforcement community. We are honored to recognize him for his leadership."

"We are grateful to the men and women who keep our communities safe by serving as law enforcement officers, and I am honored the Kansas Fraternal Order of Police has given me this award," said Tiahrt. I appreciate the work done by the Kansas FOP and the leadership of President K.C. Blodgett who works hard on behalf of Kansas law enforcement officers.

"I look forward to continue working with the FOP on legislative initiatives that will ensure our law enforcement officers have the tools necessary to do their job successfully. Those who put their lives on the line cannot be thanked enough for the work they do in keeping the peace and enforcing the law. To have a strong economy we need a safe economy, and the officers involved with the FOP play an important role in providing for our safety."

Tiahrt sponsored a legislative provision (now permanent law) to protect the lives of law enforcement officers, their families, and privacy rights of legal firearm owners who have the right to protect themselves, their families and their property.
