With ever increasing energy costs many people are searching for a way to defray those costs. If you are one of those people, you may want to consider a solar hot water heater. A solar hot water heater uses the sun´s energy to heat water as an inexpensive alternative to using costly electricity or gas.

There are a variety of ways to harness the sun´s energy to heat water. However, we suggest using a closed loop drain back system. This system uses a heat transfer fluid that is passed to a collector on your roof and is heated by the sun. The heated fluid is then directed and used to heat the potable water used for home cooking, cleaning, bathing and laundry. Since heating water with a conventional system may make up 30% of your utility bill, the savings are tremendous and as long as the sun is hotter than the water coming into your home, you will be saving money. With this type of saving, your solar hot water system can be paid off in less than three years allowing continued savings for decades to come.

You may now be wondering what a system like this will cost. Well, that will be determined by how much water you currently use in your home or work place and how many people live or work in the environment. What you may have not known is the federal government and many states now offer tax incentives or rebates to purchase and install, with a licensed contractor, renewable energy products for your home or office. For example, the state of Louisiana offers a 50% tax credit on the first $25,000. The federal government has a 30% tax credit. So, you could be getting an 80% tax credit. As I mentioned earlier and is worth mentioning again, with these types of incentives the payoff for a solar hot water system will most likely be less than three years. Think of the other assets you own that have paid themselves off in less than three years. Most likely the list will be short.

So, if you are looking for a way to save some money, help the environment, increase your property value, and reduce dependence of foreign energy sources. Then, purchasing a solar hot water system is for you.
