Sympathy for the Devil: Saddam Hussein

Allan J. Ashinoff
Please allow me to introduce myself I’m a man of wealth and pain. I’ve been in control a long, long time and killed thousands without any sense of shame. Pleased to meet you won’t you guess my name?

It must be human nature to seek out any vestige of good even in the most vile of circumstances or people. As the hangman’s noose fast approaches the former butcher of Baghdad there is suddenly a renewed interest in this monster’s dignity. What is being presented is a rare attempt to humanize the animal known as Saddam Hussein. The world is presented with the humility of a tyrant who once adorned his palace bathrooms with gold fixtures as people starved just outside his windows. This man who systematically tortured thousands of Iraqi’s and kept video tapes of these sufferings for his private amusement deserves sympathy? Saddam Hussein the man who made the act of rape a government paying occupation is now a victim? Yes, the world need show compassion and even sympathy for this poor dictator who was abruptly removed from power at the whim of President George W. Bush to satiate America’s thirst for oil. His habitat is unpleasant say’s one news agency. He’s made to wash his clothes by hand said another. Whatever is a ruthless dictator to do these days when he has no one to rape, murder, or torture?

Witness the global media, once again, as it attempts to play on short memories in an effort to defame the United States and its military. The world has had to swallow doses of “I told you so” over the crimes of Saddams’ regime the last few years. Obstructive nations such as Germany and France had to duck and hide as their complicity in the United Nations Oil for Food scandal set a monetary limit to their concern for the sanctity of human life. The UN itself was exposed as its ineptitude, dishonesty, corruption, and anti-American and Democratic sentiment has become too blatant to ignore. The greedy self motivated United States shed light on the callousness of the UN and its members. The US showed how rule or law, torture, rape, and genocide were acceptable when placed next to the financial interests of Russia, Germany, and France.

The world knows the United States and its power mongers perhaps better than the average American. Any student of history knows that America will not be defeated by military might. The defeat of American military takes place when the American people lose sight of the value and virtue of its military’s action. The American people, a curious lot no doubt, must believe that the military is fighting for a just purpose, a better way of life, the preservation what it already has, and fighting for freedom. If Americans lose sight of any of those “values” the morale of the people will infect its government and eventually seep into its military with catastrophic effects. The world knows this and apparently so does its media. America’s Achilles heel apparently is its righteousness.

The World is vying to regain for any modicum of its former power in a one super power world. The World through its preferred tool, the media, is desperately trying to make America doubt itself. America’s doubt will make it complacent which will allow the rest of the world to have some control over world events. The World has help with this task through the media and the leftist movement in the United States itself. Those Americans who have totally lost sight on what it means to be American and what America means to the future of this planet are desperate to defame and degrade America. Americans can not be allowed to be proud of whom they are, their accomplishments, or their goals without feeling that they are undeserving or taking away from others in greater need. American wealth, despite being earned, must not be hoarded when tyrants are starving their populations.

Throughout the 2004 election the Left in the United States has been positioning itself contrary to the virtue and ideology of American righteousness. After all the Left in America do not believe in “righteousness” or any absolute that defines right or wrong. How could America, a capitalist nation, act within its own interests and be so certain that it’s doing the right thing? How can a man with a moral code be elected President? How could such a President reflect the views of the majority of the populace and avoid the presses persuasion? How can America and capitalism be good? These are concepts Demlibopeans (Democrat liberal want to be Europeans) simply can’t bring themselves to resolve. Didn’t philosophy 101 by lefty-lib professor Marx in college teach that there are no moral absolutes? Can America be as good as grandpa believed? Can America actually be good?

The left in America have strayed so far from values that they can not recognize character. The role of contemporary Democrat politicians has simply devolved into the opposite of whatever the Republican said and not what its party wants or the nation needs. When did a politician become the director of his states people instead of the messenger of his peoples wants in the federal government? When did being a Democrat mean you didn’t believe in the good of your nation? When did being a Republican determine your race and beliefs and when did those things become bad? When did being of a particular party determine your race and your beliefs? When did being white and/or Christian come to represent a bad thing?

How does a modern day leftist seek to change nationalism and patriotism during a time of conflict without being labeled a traitor? Simple, involve the media. It appears that the masses in general will believe just about anything which is presented seriously on television or in print. Dan Rather serves as an example of this type of fallacy reporting. Then there’s the Koran defamation which took 15 lives in Afghan rioting. An American politician can professes treatment of enemy combatant’s in Cuba as “Nazi-like” without proof. Instead of being required prove the assertion the media searches desperately to substantiate them. Why? Anything presented in a “reputable” periodical or a “reputable” television news cast is immediately accepted as accurate. The result can be the turning the Muslim world against the US or worse the lost lives of innocents caught up in the ideological power struggle.

The issue at hand is not Saddam Hussein in his briefs. The photo’s present nothing more than the fact that Saddam is well fed, clean, unbeaten, and chose to be in his underwear while washing his own clothes. The bigger surprise would be if the US wasn’t video and audio taping him continuously for the remainder of his short life. The issue of the day is the ravenous struggle for power away from a proud, determined, self-righteous, and value oriented America and the usurpation of power given by the majority to a duly elected President Bush. The larger issue is as old as America itself. The Euros are stagnating in their own failed economic and political ideologies and are desperate to carve up the rich American pie in any way they can. The difference between 1812 and now is the Euros have the help of the American left who have infiltrated the two party system and the American people are too eager to appease, too ashamed to be proud of who they are, and too lazy to seek the truth.
