The timing to buy a new gas furnace/heater for your home has never been better. Today´s furnaces are not only energy efficient, they include incentives from the Federal Government, possibly your local utility, the manufacturer, not to mention new standard warranty´s that are now 10 years versus the old standard of 5 years.

The furnace efficiency rating system is measured by A.F.U.E. (Annual Fuel Utilization efficiency). The higher the AFUE rating the more efficient the furnace. Think of AFUE like this, if a furnace AFUE rating is 80%, then 80 cents from every dollar of gas invested is utilized the heat your home. The remaining 20 cents simply is wasted through the flu vent pipe. So if you buy a 95% AFUE furnace, you will only waste 5% of the gas going into the furnace. Simply said, the higher the AFUE number, the lower your monthly utility bill will be.

Energy efficiency is top of mind for all Americans today. The benefits of efficiency include lower utility bills, smaller carbon footprint left behind and the avoiding the cost of constructing new power plants and gas refineries. The Department of Energy recognizes all three of these facts are critical to Americans today. In fact they are willing to invest with consumers to increase their home energy efficiency. 95% AFUE furnaces qualify for a one time tax credit of 30% of the installed cost, up to $1500 per household.

Local utilities are offering additional incentives for consumers to invest in home heating energy efficiency. 92% AFUE furnaces seem to be the minimum to achieve a rebate. The rebate dollars increase as the efficiency of the equipment increases. For example, Xcel Energy in Colorado is offering $80.00 back for a 92% AFUE furnace and $120.00 for a 94% or greater AFUE furnace. This is a common sense incentive designed to help consumers make the right long term decision for their home.

Major manufacturers like Carrier Corporation (a United Technologies Company, UTX) offer consumers factory rebates on premium heating and cooling products during specific times through the year, typically spring and fall. Financing offers accompany these incentives to reduce the immediate out of pocket expense for homeowners. These rebates and financing offers are intended to incent the consumer to purchase the most efficient system possible.

When making an investment in upgrading your home, we all want piece of mind/confidence. Carrier Corporation now offers a 10 year parts warranty standard on energy efficient home heating and cooling products. This warranty is backed by the confidence in the reliability of the products.

There has never been a better time to invest in upgrading your home heating and cooling system. Lower your utility bill, take advantage of Federal and local incentives, and increase you piece of mind in this new energy economy.
