God is My Best Friend
For me, that "best friend" is God. He is the only one I can be sure of in every situation, good or bad. His friendship is eternal, never-ending, and always puts my own interests first. Do you feel that deep and abiding friendship with the Lord? If you haven´t experienced it yet, you are missing out on the most rewarding and trustworthy friendship you will ever have.
You see, God is your friend without expecting anything in return other than your love. He doesn´t require your help, He won´t ask for favors and He doesn´t need you to prove anything to Him. Simply love Him. In return, He will always be there for you – always. There is no friendship on earth that can compare to that kind of eternal friendship.
Our childhood friendships fall away as we become adults. As we move from being single to becoming adults, we lose some of our college friends and make friends with other people who are married and have children. As our interests and our circumstances in life change, our friendships change. And sometimes friendships end because of betrayal or hurt feelings.
But God doesn´t change with our circumstances, He is our friend and our guide no matter whether we are single or married, young or old, rich or poor. He will also give us as many chances as we need. If we make mistakes, He will forgive us and still love us and remain our friend, always ready to protect us, shelter us and lift us up so long as we are willing to let Him.
"Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you."
James 4:8
It´s reassuring to know that the Lord is the kind of steadfast and loyal friend that will always be there for us whenever we need Him. Know matter how far we stray from Him, as long as we return and ask for His guidance, we can remain secure knowing that He will be there for us. We won´t ever have to ask ourselves, "Have I made one too many mistakes? Is this the time that I can´t be forgiven?" God´s friendship and love isn´t like that - He doesn´t keep score. There is a passage that explains it very clearly:
"He offers his friendship to the Godly."
Proverbs 3:32
The passage from Proverbs is very direct and simple; there are no restrictions put on what God expects from His people. If you are a Godly person, He offers His friendship. You don´t have to be perfect, or give a certain tithe, or go to church every Sunday, or be perfect, or always be the best you can be. And He doesn´t put a restriction on how or when He offers His friendship. It is a whole-hearted, unrestricted offer of friendship to all Godly people with no limits that is so simple and yet so abundant in its richness.
Who is your best friend? Consider making your best friend God today – you will soon learn that He is the One you can count on every day, in every way, until the end of time. What better friend you can ask for than that?
