Swine Flue: Growing Concern

Joe Fleishman
This is a disaster! When world´s economy is struggling to uplift from the plunge, swine flue incidence occurred. Already the World Health Organization WHO raises flue threat level and warns that the pandemic is imminent. The WHO raised the official alert level to phase 5, the last step before a pandemic.

This is not a good timing for the flue. But still flue in maintaining its pace and has already claimed the life of nearly two hundred people. Germs are flying with the people and have spread into many countries. Although most of the international airports have opened special reception unit for the suspected passengers carrying the virus but it is not able to protect the expansion of the disease completely.

In Europe some countries are planning to change the name of the disease considering the economic impact. They want to call it the Mexican Flue. Whatever the name is, flue is managed to divert the world´s attention from its current economic downturn.

Swine flu in fact has no vaccine. It is unusual for human to get this flue. It usually infects the pigs not human. Human interception is a rare event. But now we are just short from the pandemic level of this disease.

There is no evidence that eating pork has something to do with this flue. Yet scientists believe pig has some role behind all this mishaps. Like I said swine flue is very common among the pigs. It is like influenza of human. The question is how human got the flue from the pigs? Many pig firms are not very cautious to dispose the waste properly. This is the prime reason. If this waste is not disposed properly and it comes into human contact – human can easily collect this virus. Like other animals pigs are often rubs their body and nose in the fences and other areas of the farmland –person who is in-charge can straightforwardly get in touch with the virus if pigs are already suffering from the disease. Germs can land on the hand and it can go to mouth, nose and other places –it´s not so difficult. This man is now carrying swine flue virus.

But if farmer use gloves and wash their hands frequently and if they wash their hand properly before eating –they can outrun the virus. Unfortunately washing hand frequently is not a very common practice for the pig farmers allover the world.

How can someone stay away from the swine flue? Avoid public gathering for couple of weeks -may be it is little bit woeful but sill do it, use mask to protect your nose and mouth, wash your hand frequently and don´t let the germs landing on hand, if possible avoid congested places like train or bus, avoid close contact with someone who is coughing and sneezing.

If you notice you are feeling feverish or some kind of fever like symptom – go to doctor immediately along with avoiding going to public places, schools, offices etc. Stay aware not to infect others.
