Get to Know Me: Dr. Bonnie Eaker Weil, Author of Financial Infidelity
I first started in my profession by being a "little" family therapist since the age of 7. I was helping my parents as my dad was an adulterer. At 7 my dad was crying to me saying he didn't want my mom to leave and wanted me to help. I experienced at that young age, that love does conquer all. My parents ended up staying together and my dad stopped cheating. I learned from my parents to not just give up and quit, but to work hard at things that you really want. Love takes skills, dialogue and hard work.
What do you want others to know about you?
I want people to know that I work just as hard as my patients do. I have a high success rate of couples that stay together as I believe in my patients. Im a positive person and I enstill this in my patients. I have created a new theory called the Bio Chemical Craving for Connection, which my dad helped me with and developed. They are theories for addictions (including alcoholism, adultery, drug addiction and workaholism) The Bio Chemical Craving for Connection has to do with stress, loss and seperatation and about balancing brain chemicals to get us back to the state of when we first fell in love or when we were happy.
What do you like and dislike about your community?
What I like about my community is the openness to new ideas, im a very creating person. It's a curious and optimistic community that allows me to be safe and open. We all can work as a team and learn from each other, even if we don't always see eye to eye. It creates bonding, love and connection.
What's your most memorable moment in life?
I have several memorable moments in life, but one sticks in my mind the most. That was the day I married my husband, it was an outside wedding but the weather was monsoon like. Someone said let's have the wedding inside, but me being an optimistic person, decided to stay outside as I was sure the sun would come out. 10 minutes later as we were walking down the aisle the sun came out, and the rabai said it was a Good Omen. We have had a wonderful marriage since.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies include golf, tennis, lap swim, riding on our pontoon boat and watching beautiful sunsets, broadway shows, theatre, opera, movies, dancing and Life!
How can people find out more about your business?
By reading about my philosophies on falling and staying in love, how not to stop relationships before they start and how to stay out of a powerstruggle which includes; struggles over money, commitment, sex, children, inlaws. If your single my philosophies can teach you how to meet and not discard the right one. Also, I teach that seperation and divorce does not get rid of the problems.
The skills and dialogue that I teach can be found in my upcoming paperback March 31st Plume, called Financial Infidelity the #1 Relationship Wrecker. My second book, Make up Don´t Break up Rescue your Relationship and Rekindle your Romance Finding and Keeping Love for Singles and Couples. Third book, How not to (S)Mother your Man and How To Keep a Women Happy. Forth book, Adultry the Forgivable Sin which was translated into 5 languages and made into a movie on Lifetime starring Charlies Angels, Kate Jackson. Last book, Can we Cure and Forgive Adultery, this book deals with the epidemic of adultry and sees it as a disease like alcoholism. It also deals with alcoholism, drug addiction and adultery.
