There are many types of addiction. Some are more insidious than others. Food addiction can be just as painful as crack addiction, although society would make you believe otherwise. People have gone so far down the bottom of the barrel when it comes to food. Based on the personīs behavior during their food addiction, you would think that we were talking about crack. Society doesnīt see food addiction as a problem. Most people donīt believe there is such thing as food addiction and therefore, donīt take the symptoms seriously. Food addicts end up isolated, filled with shame, fear, guilt and remorse.
Symptoms of Food Addiction
What is food addiction? Addiction itself is the inability to abstain from certain behaviors or when the person does indulge in the behavior, they have no control over how much they indulge. The addict may be able to stop, but they canīt stay stopped. This is what distinguishes addicts from non-addicts the inability to take it or leave it. Food addiction is the same. Everyone has bad days and almost everyone has sought comfort in a bowl of ice cream. Ice cream becomes a problem when you eat pints of it at a time, knowing that you really do not want to do it, but feeling compelled to eat it all, no matter how badly your stomach is aching. You vow never to eat that much again, only to find yourself gorging on donuts 10 minutes later.
Food is an Acceptable Drug Itīs Everywhere
Food is everywhere. Events in America are always centered around food. Seldom do we get together for the sake of getting together the focus is always on food. No wonder people think food addiction is normal or are in denial as to its existence. Therefore, food becomes an acceptable form of self-annihilation.
Sugary, Sticky, Fatty Foods = Massive Weight Gain
There are certain kinds of foods that are addictive sugary, fatty, and sticky foods. Food addicts are always addicted to sugar or grease. Once they take the first bite, the compulsion begins. The food addict will lie, steal, cheat, beg and even murder for food. In the deep stages of the disease, food addicts often do not bathe for weeks on end, do not wash their hair, cannot hold on to jobs or relationships, and alienate those that love them due to their hostility and personality change. In addition, rapid weight gain often occurs as a result of nightly binges. There is a way to stop food addiction!
Food Addicts Must Give Up Sugar
The only hope for food addicts is to first find a diet that eliminates sugar and all highly processed foods. The food addictīs diet must contain abundant fruit and vegetables and lean protein. All highly processed foods must be eliminated if a food addict ever hopes to stop his or her food addiction and compulsion. Then the food addict must find a support group to help them stay away from their drug of choice. But the most important thing to do is to stop the physical cravings dead in its tracks.
