The Republican "Clench Fist"
I must admit that I was not a happy camper when George W was elected two terms in a row, but I didn´t want him to fail. I didn´t like him, but failure was not on my mind. Unfortunately failure seems to be the hope of many radical conservatives. I say radical because I don´t want to think that all conservatives want to see their president flop. Most logical individuals wait a few months and then express their like or distaste for the president, not so with many conservatives today.
It didn´t surprise me that Congress voted right down party lines on President Obama´s proposed stimulus package. Old political grudges don´t disappear and they don´t fade away. Mr. Obama has reached out with an open hand to Republicans, but their hands were clenched. Perhaps the American mindset is clenched not wanting to budge from their archaic ideologies. What I am proud of most with our new president is the belief I have that he will continue to reach out to Republicans knowing with complete certainty he is reaching into a hot oven and could get burned, but that´s the soul of the man.
You see Obama is a man with high values, integrity, and moral convictions. He has stumbled many times, but has stood up, dusted himself off, and began again. Judge him by the content of his character not by Rush Limbaugh´s rhetoric or Dick Army´s negativism. Don´t judge him by the Mitch McConnell´s deep resentment or John Boehner´s lack of trust. How long has he been president, ten days? Can we wait at least a year or two?
It seems somewhat paradoxical that Republicans are against this stimulus plan when they voted Bush´s 700 billion dollar plan in a matter of days only to see it spent without oversight and any knowledge of it´s real effect on banking agencies. Thus far, there have been absolutely no positive effects from the bailout that anyone is keenly aware of. Yet, the conservative decry a bailout, which has been written with tax relief and job creation at its forefront.
I would remind our conservative friends that President Obama did not create this economic disaster. It seems to have fallen from the Republican sky that clouded Washington for eight years, of which a Republican saturated House and Senate ruled six years.
So, do you want to see Obama fail? I doubt it. Barack Obama won the election unanimously. Our fellow citizens want a better life, at least better than the one that was left on their doorsteps by a deaf and dispassionate Republican-filled Whitehouse. If President Obama fails it won´t be because he hasn´t reached out his hand to the world.
