Rescue America with Stimulus

Susan Elaine Wheeler
Every business that trades on Wall Street is worth 25-50% less today, than itīs value was six months ago. GE is down 46%. Sprint is eliminating 8,000 jobs, Pfizer is cutting 19,000 and Caterpillarīs losing 20,000 employees with more layoffs coming in every industry.

We need a great stimulus package that accelerates sustainable industries, creating jobs right now in our country. Our government officials need to stop bickering and grand standing, with whatīs wrong with H.R.1 and decide whatīs right about the stimulus package. We all need to work together with positive dialogue that will make it even better. Investing in industries and jobs that will sustain our nation, keeping jobs in our country not off shore, will benefit our nation.

Our elected officials should be stepping up, including tax breaks for companies that have and are investing in renewable energies. Educating the computer illiterate, providing broadband across the country and educating our youth so their math and science scores donīt continue at 25th in the world. Teaching prevention and developing affordable healthcare along with rebuilding our cities infrastructures. These types of jobs will help us work our way out of the worst economic conditions, since the great depression.

This is our turning point and we need to do it now, before the dam breaks completely. As we correct these adversities that crashed our realities and markets, understanding the difficulty of this situation weīre experiencing caused by lack of ethics that Wall St. and the banking system encouraged.

Has corruption introduced so many inefficiencies that reduces honest competitiveness in our country? Are we lost in blaming and name calling instead of realizing that we have to fix these issues now, the ones that have undermined our free markets with widespread unscrupulous behavior?

To blame Americanīs for buying a house they couldnīt afford, when the market values were inflated and your friendly bank manager is asking you to sign on the dotted line, knowing the probability of default in 5 -10 years when the interest rate increases, is really a crime against humanity.

Rush Limbaugh makes the statement that he "hopes Obama will fail." How much hate is in his heart or doesnīt he understand how pitiful the state of our economy is, right now. That he would bet against the one good thing thatīs up lifting the spirits of Americans, ready to challenge these mistakes.

House Minority Leader, John A Boehner, Republican of Ohio refers to the stimulus package on Sundayīs "Meet the Press" says, "The size of this package and all of the spending in this package, we don't think it's going to work," but offers no ideas to help. He also refers to an "ailing economy" when the reality is that it has already crashed and now itīs burning.

Will we be watching more reruns of Democrats and Republicanīs criticizing and bashing each other in the first 100 days? That mentality is not what our country needs or voted for as our new President took office. We need positive solutions that are well thought out ideas and decisive actions taken by those who have compassion for our families.

The one thing we want moving forward is consistency with what is said and done. Ironically, after the new "ethic rules" for this administration were stated, thereīs already been an exception referring to one lobbyist in particular. William Lynn, has been nominated for Secretary of Defense, even though he lobbied for Raytheon.

Heīs exempt from two specific sections: a two-year prohibition on employees from participating in decisions related to their former employers and a more specific section banning individuals from taking jobs in the agencies they recently lobbied. Will this be the exception or the rule? Only time will tell.

Letīs make integrity, the standard as part of this stimulus package. At this point, government needs to step in, because we do need credit and we do need jobs and whatever that cost is, weīre investing in our country and our future.
