THE ODIOUS BUSH STEW or DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU

Jonas Holmes
Does torture work? Yes, it does. It works on the mind of the world, of all its nations and all its people.

Should President Obama close down Guantanamo? Yes, he should. It is time to change the United States of America's perception as a torturing, civilian bombing, terrifying military machine. Even the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, thinks the State Department needs more support and the military needs fewer burdens. Soft power, smart power; it seems so long since we have seen anything of the sort. It seems foreign to us. It is foreign to us, foreign in that other countries have been practicing it much more adeptly than we.

The Chinese for instance and the Japanese; both of whom hold the majority of our debt. China who has stated they are no longer interested in purchasing our debt. China who is currently loaning us money to keep us afloat. The banks are gone, the insurance companies, the real estate companies and the auto companies are all washed down the drain of fiscal irresponsibility. Despite these mountainous economic tragedies we still pander to "mighty" lawmakers and politicians as heroes of modern day sophistication. We refuse to accept that our country has turned into an extended version of Hollywood House Wives rife with shallowness and the loss of our souls. We are children that don't believe the stove is hot unless we touch it and we will never touch that stove. Still, the stew boils thick. If we dared to we could smell the rotting remains of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians, all of them killed to line the pockets of Halliburton, Blackwater, Lockheed, Raytheon and the military industrial complex. Unfortunately, the trickle down theory didn't work as we face an economic crash worse than the Great Depression along with record levels of unemployment. The United States of America has been raped and pillaged; its credibility destroyed. We are despised and loathed around the world. That is the stew that is boiling over. As it spills on to the stove, counter and floors we turn our gaze.

How long can we look askew? Not very long, for something disastrous is afoot. The synchronous suicide dance of dead millionaires and billionaires has taken hold around the world. Is life really that terrible when you still have millions, if not billions in the bank? Is a loss of face or a bruise to the ego of that great a concern? Perhaps there were other, greater times, in which these wealthy persons could have made the ultimate statement to preserve their nobility like an ancient samurai. Certainly when they were forced to work for nazis, both modern and historic, they could have breached the gates of seppuku legends. Yes, the boiling stew is rapidly turning into a reduction. Better yet; it is quickly becoming an insipid gravy.

Another word for gravy might be a quagmire, as in the quagmire of Iraq. American mothers and fathers are becoming childless by the thousands. With no home, no job and no children; the carnivorous carnival marches onward. Can smart power save us now? It depends on what me mean by save. No, I don't believe our country will ever be as powerful as it once was. Our best hope at this time is to become a respected member of the global community where are neighbors don't desire to annihilate us for our torrid transgressions. The heads of America's 16 intelligence agencies have all said the war in Iraq had made us LESS safe. Bush claims to have kept us safe when in reality he has only designed a potential for our future destruction. We have to wake up from our numbing and dumbed down Family Guy reality with its petty and minutia like perspective.

I was hard on Hillary Clinton during her campaign against President Obama. For all her critique of the President; she did not despise him so much so as to reject outright a position is his cabinet. I do not know, if she had won the Presidency, whether or not the same courtesy would have been extended. Now, Hillary Clinton has an opportunity to be marked as the greatest diplomat in the history of the United States of America. She has an opportunity to create a legacy known in every American History book. Hillary, can you extract America from two major wars and dozens, perhaps hundreds of secret ones? Can you create an atmosphere around the world of friendship and appreciation for the United States of America? Can you negotiate a secure future for America's access to oil, another failure in the war on Iraq? Can you restore prosperous real estate opportunities near the Caspian Sea that were lost in a misguided confrontation with the Soviet Union? There is a lot on your plate Madame Secretary and that is without venturing into N. Korea, the Middle East and China.

Yes, Madame Secretary, relations with China should be a priority. Whistling in the wind is not an option at the time. Only sheer blindness could ignore the future realities forming in China and Russia. Can military and intelligence agencies reign in their attack on domestic freedom by the New National Security State? Since the stew has become a stench ridden and putrid burning gravy, President Obama and the new administrations opportunities for positive change are legion.

Yes, President Barack Hussein Obama, and who gives a damn about that middle name? I'll take it any day over a W, which certainly didn't stand for win, as in either of his elections. President Obama, will you become the greatest President in US history? Take heed from the embarassing departure of your predecessor. With the lowest polls of any US president ever and a fervor to witness his exit; the American population views his evacuation as they would a thief climbing out their window late in the night. Goodbye and Good riddance, I believe is the expression. The burning gravy is now caked hard to the bottom of the pot. The concoction of black, smoking embers pours forth clouds of shame, disgrace and forthcoming punishment. Its reek pours forth over America like a dismal fog of suffocating gas. The pot is hot to the touch. Who dares to deal with this mess? Who is going to clean up?

Quite a clean up it will be. The pots will have to be scrubbed viciously. The burnt remains will have to be disposed of. There is a long and arduous task lying ahead. That in itself is the stuff of which Legends are made. Do I think it possible? No, not at all, not in the least. For some reason; I believe it will be business as usual; just as it was business as usual when the Democratic Congress got elected. Perhaps, there is some chance for Hope. After all, although I supported you President Obama; I never thought you would get elected. I was wrong then and hopefully; I am wrong now. Sometimes its good to be wrong and hopefully, you are able to deal with what the criminal Bush administration has been cooking in America's kitchen.
