The salt water flush is one aspect of the Master Cleanse that is the most likely to become a stumbling block in having a successful cleanse. But since it is an important part of the detox process, I think it is worthwhile to discuss the salt water flush in a bit more detail.

If you do the salt water flush as recommend by Stanley Burroughs, it will help flush the crud and debris out of your system each day by moving it through your intestines pretty quickly. Ideally, you'll drink the concoction of 1 quart of purified (or spring) water with 2 teaspoons of sea salt (un-iodized) first thing in the morning, before you start drinking your lemonade drink for the day. For most people, the flush will start to do its work within an hour and you'll urgently need to go to the bathroom, and then may need to eliminate additionally a few more times over the next hour or two.

The difficult aspect of doing the salt water flush for most people is the taste and not the elimination! It is important to make sure you are using the un-iodized sea salt instead of regular table salt. You should find that the sea salt drink is much more palatable than using regular salt. You also want to make sure the drink is fully stirred before drinking.

If you really are unable to drink the sea salt flush because it is making your gag or making you feel nauseous, Stanley Burroughs does say that you can replace it with an additional laxative tea drink. So instead of taking the laxative tea only at night, you would drink it in the morning as well. If you do wind up doing the replacement, try the salt water flush again about three or four days after you've started the Master Cleanse. Many people find that the salt water drink isn't nearly as undesirable after their body has already started cleansing, so you may find it easier to take a few days into the Cleanse.

For many people who are going to do the Master Cleanse for the first time, the most difficult part is actually doing it for the full ten days. But if you follow my Master Cleanse diet tips, you should get through the rough spots just fine.
