Ketron PEEK

Robin Brain
The Ketron polymer is a material that is based on the polyetheretherketone resin. It is a semi crystalline substance that is a mixture of good mechanical properties and temperature and chemical resistance. It is because of this fact that ketron is the most popular advanced plastics material available and used in today´s market.

The main property of ketron is that it has a high service temperature in air of about 250°C. The material has excellent mechanical strength and is very stiff in nature. It is also creep resistant even at higher temperatures. Ketron is chemical resistant as well as hydrolysis resistant. The substance has low inflammability and produces very less smoke when combusted. It is dimensionally stable as well. High energy radiations also do not effect ketron much and it is an excellent insulating material apart from having exceptional dielectric properties. The moisture absorption is low and is resistant to abrasion.

Just like PPS, ketron also provides a good resistance against acids and hydrolysis. The only difference here is that ketron can operate at much higher temperatures as compared to PPS. Many ketron PEEK offer steam and wear resistance that make its usage even better. Outstanding bearing performance is achieved with the help of different types of ketron. PEEK is capable of being used at a temperature of 250-300°C without tampering its physical characteristics. For hostile surroundings, it is a high strength alternative if one does not wants to use fluoropolymers. PEEK has been found out to emit very less content of toxic wastes when it is put to flame.

The use of ketron has been proven in many fields. It is used to make pump wear rings. The only reason of using ketron here is because the efficiency is improved greatly by it. It allows close running tolerance and also prevents the material from corrosion and wear-out. Ketron is also used in structural parts for vacuum wand handles. Also in many semi-conductors manufacturing, ketron makes it mark too. Many bushes, bearings and seals also find their selves to be made of ketron. It improves the performance and reliability of the end products a lot.

It is a well known fact that the stiffness of ketron drops significantly while its expansion increases above the glass transition temperature of it. If the temperature rises by 150°C, it would be better to use Torlon.
