Oromo ´Joe the Artist´ for Obama 08

Very recently, I was at the same arts event in Mineapolis, Minnesota with Amrula Tahiro, whom I referred to as an Oromo ´Joe the Artist´--a concept a borrowed from the Senators John McCain and Barack Obama´s use of the famous phrase ´Joe the Plumber´ in their last presidential debate.

Here I am using the phrase ´Joe the Artist´ not to indicate McCain and Obama´s different approaches to tax cut, but to grab your attention to tell you a story of an incredible work of art of an immigrant artist from the Horn of Africa, who is a great fan of Barack Obama. Amrula Tahiro has already crafted a wonderful painting as a special gift for Barack Obama. He is still figuring out ways in which his work of art can reach Barack Obama.

At the event Tahiro was showcasing and explaining his spectacular work of art to the audience. Tahiro considers himself mainly as a digital science artist. He classifies his digital arts into three: design, abstract and nature. He explores various subjects in the areas, including global warming, forests set on fire in Oromia in Ethiopia, space exploration arts of the moon and mars. "I view my artwork as my ultimate discovery," said Tahiro.

The viewers of his art in the US often did not believe that such an imaginative artist comes from the conflict-ridden Horn of Africa, where there is little space for free thinking and expression. He told me he is happy that his viewers tell him his work of art generates great aesthetic satisfactions in them and that they wish him a great success.

He spoke that previously he auctioned his work of art on a festive celebration, organized by CommonBond Communities, a non-profit affordable home service provider in the Upper Midwest US. He said he has had some success, selling his artwork at Guthrie Gift Shop. He wishes his work of art to be revealed further on major media networks and seeks an assistance of anyone willing and able to help him do so.

Amrula Tahiro first moved to the United States as an Oromo political refugee from Ethiopia in 1996. His work of art is inspired by the best of his lived and imagined experience of the two Worlds--Africa and the US. Universal as his art work is, he believes the main philosophy that shapes them comes from his rich African heritage.

If you wish to help Amrula Tahiro to make his digital arts further known or if you wish to help him get the work of art he especially made for Barack Obama delivered, email him at amrula@aol.com .
