Guide to County Armagh in Ireland
County Armagh is a county in the province of Ulster and the smallest of the six counties that form Northern Ireland.
County Armagh is known as the Orchard County because the fertile land is ideal for the growing of fruit and mainly apples are cultivated in the region. Its main town is Armagh, in the middle of the county, although Lurgan and Portadown located in the north of the county each have larger populations. The city of Armagh has two cathedrals and is considered to be the centre of Christianity in Ireland.
The county borders Lough Neagh to the north, County Down to the east and County Tyrone to the north-west. Its remaining borders are formed by counties Louth and Monaghan, both in the Republic of Ireland, to the south and south-west respectively. The River Blackwater flows along the border with Tyrone, whilst the River Bann is another major river in the region.
The county´s other main towns are Craigavon and Tandragee.
