KNOW YOUR CARPET FIBER BEFORE CLEANING
Mike has been in the family retail flooring business and installation of all types of floors for over forty years; consequently he does have a preference regarding carpet-cleaning methods. His favorite is the extraction method, which uses hot water and a recommended cleaning solution. It is possible to purchase a carpet-cleaning machine as an alternative to renting one. Using one of these machines properly will give you a cleaner carpet without damaging the fiber or backing of the carpet.
Cleaning: First fill the machine with water and detergent. Then maneuver the carpet-cleaning machine into the corner of the room and pull the trigger. Once water and detergent begin releasing, slowly pull the machine towards yourself. The machine will agitate and extract the water and dirt all in one motion. Following this method will help avoid getting your carpet wet. Remember, most of the soil is on top of the carpet or rug. If there is a spot or stain, go over that area again in the same manner. Depending on the type of stain, it may require some special attention. Pre-spray solutions can be purchased for stains and heavy traffic areas. If you clean your carpet in this method, it should be dry in under an hour. If it takes 2-3 hours to dry, you are merely soaking and not extracting the dirt with the water. This may cause mold or bacteria to grow which can allow the dirt to penetrate all the way down to the backing. This can cause additional problems such as soil wicking to the surface, so be careful not to soak or over clean your carpet. The next time the carpet is cleaned use the same machine, if possible. Try using scented ammonia in place of detergent. Some people might not like using it, but Mike knows using this method has kept his carpets cleaner longer and without buildup. Remember too much cleaning can be as bad as not enough cleaning.
STAINMASTERŽ nylon was a breakthrough in a nylon that resists stains. While no carpet is immune to stains, this manufacturing process actually made STAINMASTERŽ carpets nearly stain-proof. Spills that are allowed to soak for extended periods will slowly begin to penetrate dye sites, but this new solution resulted spectacular results. STAINMASTERŽ does not prevent a carpet from getting dirty, it simply resists stains better. Check out the NFL, MLB, UNIVERSITY & custom rugs all made of STAINMASTERŽ nylon at www.unirugs.com.
