Josee Archer Nominated for Poise Passion Award

Josee Archer
Josee Archer, marketing coordinator for Seek Wellness, LLC, was nominated for the Poise Passion Award for her personal story of overcoming post-partum stress incontinence. Ms. Archer had struggled with embarrassment over this health condition and wanted to help others by writing her story and working with the editor of www.seekwellness.com to create a Kegel Exercise Center (www.seekwellness.com/kegel).

During the last month of Josee´s pregnancy, she experienced episodes of incontinence when she laughed or climbed stairs. When the incontinence did not go away after her baby was born, she discussed it with her doctor who did not have a lot of helpful information for her. She turned to existing information at SeekWellness.com and found several articles about how to control this type of incontinence. She also realized that a lot of younger women in her situation were probably not aware of the treatment or the website´s resources on the topic. After consulting with the editor, they decided to create the Kegel Exercise Center at www.seekwellness.com/kegel/.

Upon completion of the center, Caitlyn Costello, Director of Outreach and Product Management for the Women´s Health Foundation informed Ms. Archer that she had been nominated for the 2008 Poise Passion Award for her personal story. The Award is given to a woman who has overcome pelvic conditions through personal effort and has found strength through pelvic fitness and lifestyle changes. The Award is given to a woman who is willing to share her story, inspire others, and teach through her own experiences. Ms. Costello felt that Josee´s story fit the criteria well.

The award ceremony took place on June 7, 2008 at the Below the Belt reception and anniversary dinner sponsored by the Women´s Health Foundation in Chicago, IL. The winner was Linda Michaels of Chicago, IL. Ms. Michaels spent 13 weeks rebuilding her pelvic floor muscles after experiencing incontinence for 29 years since having a child. Although Ms. Archer did not win the award, she is pleased to have been nominated and hopes that her story will assist others struggling from stress incontinence.

"Stress incontinence is very difficult to deal with. Although I was embarrassed by my condition, I wanted to share my story to let women know that they are not alone and that they can fix the problem. I´m very grateful to have inspired the concept of the kegel center on SeekWellness.com and I look forward to continuing to contribute information that will help women overcome their incontinence," says Josee Archer.
