XBox Red Light - How to fix the XBox Red Light Issue

So you´ve got yourself an Xbox 360? Congratulations. However not long after plugging it in you may suddenly notice your Xbox 360 has flashing red lights instead of green ones. Not so fortunate after all perhaps.
Unfortunately you have joined a list of ever expanding Xbox 360 owners facing the ´xbox red light´ problem. The exact number of owners that face this xbox red light problem seems hard to tell, although the failure rate of these consoles has been estimated to be as high as 60% of all units sold.
If you are one of the unlucky people suffering this problem you do have a couple of options to consider. The first option (provided your console is under warrantee) is to send it back to Microsoft for the repair.
Microsoft has recently generously extended the warranty on the xbox 360. This warranty extension will however only apply if you bought your Xbox new, you have your receipt of purchase and not modified or opened up the case at all. You can expect a delay of up to eight weeks for the return of your Xbox console however, due to the high volume of incoming Xbox´s requiring fixes.
Another option is to use a 'home remedy' that users have posted around the place after growing tired of the long Microsoft waiting lists no doubt. You may have seen the a common quick fix method known as the ´towel trick´ whereby wrapping the console in a couple of towels and run it for a while. There are a few other similar 'tricks' around however if you do choose the towel trick beware users have reported it to only be a short term fix and actually ends up causing more hard than good. So walk with caution when attempting some of these home remedies you see on YouTube!
The most dependable and cost-effective way of repairing the dreaded xbox 360 red light comes in the form of a do-it-yourself repair guide.
