AFL: Brigade Bombs Destroyers
February 19, 2006, will go down in history as the day that the Brigade of Kansas City picked up their first ever franchise win defeating the Columbus Destroyers 45-24, bringing their record to (1-3). After the game, Brigade Head Coach Kevin Porter had this to say, ?We played consistently and aggressively tonight, but consistency is something we will work on.?
OFFENSE
Quarterback Andy Kelly went 24-36 picking up 253yards and 2 touchdowns by air, Kelly also had 1 rushing touchdown and 2 interceptions. ?It is good to know people have confidence in me when they are looking to start a new franchise,? said Kelly when asked about being a ?Franchise Quarterback.?
DEFENSE
Denario Smalls led the way by picking off a pass with 9:17 left in the 2nd quarter and running it 39 yards for six. Smalls finished with 2 picks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble, 4 pass deflections, 6 tackles, and 1 touchdown.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tim Sender did miss two field goals, but still had a good showing in the match-up. The kickoff coverage did allow Columbus to return the ball to the Brigade 8 yard line in the 2nd half, but also had a great kickoff recovery in the endzone by Travis Coleman.
LOOKING AHEAD
Kansas City has four days to prepare for their trip to the (2-2) Georgia Force, who picked up a 48-31 win against the Orlando Predators this week. One thing that Kansas City will have to do against Georgia is take rookie DS Chris Brown out of the game. Brown had a franchise high three interceptions against Orlando.
