WWE needs to grow up: Michael Cole, Eddie Guerrero, Triple H, and Todd Grisham.

Eric Schomburg
It’s been over a month since I rant and raved about the WWE, because with both Edge and Kurt Angle being champion, I thought the WWE was doing something right. I was more in tuned with what the WWE was going to do next then writing bad reviews about how much the WWE sucks.

That is, until now.

So, what’s wrong with the WWE now? What’s not wrong with the WWE anymore? I’ve always said that wrestling died when the Monday Night Wars ended. Not only did WCW and ECW die, but so did the World Wrestling Federation. Despite the WWE replaced the company of the World Wrestling Federation, it’s a mere shadow of it’s former self. Translation, professional wrestling died in 2001, and now it barely exists with TNA; however, wrestling is still decaying.

Let’s start with the recent antics of cheap heat used by Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio, Jr. Everyone who is affiliated with the world of professional wrestling, whether you’re a wrestler or a fan, miss Eddie Guerrero; however, that was a couple of months ago, and yet the name of Eddie Guerrero still lurks in the WWE.

Let me go ahead and say that I for one am sick and tired of hearing the name Eddie Guerrero. Don’t get me wrong, I give the most respect to Vicki Guerrero and the entire Guerrero family; however, I believe it’s time for the WWE fans and the WWE wrestlers to move on with their lives and stop milking the name of Eddie Guerrero.

Rey Mysterio, Jr wins the Royal Rumble and he thanks Eddie Guerrero. Rey, do me a favor, and shut up about Eddie Guerrero. I understood he was your friend, but you don’t have to be like Puff Daddy and remind us that your best friend is no longer in this world.

Randy Orton, I understand you’re just doing your job and saying what is scripted, but I would think you had enough stroke in the WWE to object to saying things like Eddie Guerrero is in hell. Besides, your cheap heat isn’t even getting you over with the fans, because during the No Way Out press conference, the fans were cheering for you, not Rey Mysterio, maybe that should tell you both something. Milking Eddie’s name isn’t working anymore, so do us all a favor and stop it.

Let’s continue with Mr. John Cena. I don’t have a problem with John Cena, I don’t have a problem with him being champion, and I don’t have a problem with him being the number one guy; however, why does Vince McMahon still listen to his son-in-law, Triple H? Has Vince McMahon received the outdated memo that it was Triple H who made the WWE stock fall from 2001 to today?

Apparently, it was Triple H’s idea to get the belt off of Edge and put it on John Cena. Why? So, Triple H can be an 11th time champion in the WWE. Isn’t this how the WWE was losing money in the first place, was because Triple H pretty much made professional wrestling more fake then it already was?

I want to ask Vince McMahon a question. Vince, let’s look at the equation that you plan on operating. You have Triple H, a guy that the fans respect as a wrestler, but disdain him due to his lack of charisma, and lack of working the world title. Don’t get me wrong, Triple H can work in the ring, but every time I watch RAW and see him go to the ring with a microphone I immediately change the channel, because I know that Triple H is going to say the same crap he has said 5 years ago.

Then, you have John Cena. A babyface who fans hate. Now, if you put Triple H vs. John Cena for the world title, who is the fans supposed to cheer for? Don’t try to fool the fans, Vince, because no one is buying this upcoming feud. It stinks so bad that the internet has already smelled it a mile away.

Let’s continue with the commentators of the World Wrestling Entertainment. A long time ago, Todd Grisham recently called a fan a “retard” due to the fact that the fan said “TNA is better than WWE.” Of course you’re going to get fans that will be vindictive and besmirch the WWE; however, Todd Grisham, being the professional that he is, and yes I am being sarcastic, he calls the fan a “retard.”

First of all, Todd, I wouldn’t be calling any fan a retard despite that it’s the fans that put food on your table, and second of all, you were voted the “worst television announcer” in 2004 by Dave Meltzer for a reason. You should have been a professional, Mr. Grisham, and just ignored the comments, but no, you had to pretend you were “bad to the bone” and besmirch the fan. Wow, you’re a big strong man, aren’t you?

Speaking of color commentators that need to brush up on being more professional, Michael Cole has recently been on a radio talk show with co-host Tazz. Just like Todd Grisham, Cole had a fan call in for the sole purpose of besmirching Michael Cole, and just like Todd Grisham, Cole took it upon himself to being unprofessional and literally drop a ton of ‘F-Bomb’s.

I don’t have a problem with Michael Cole nor do I have a problem with his work as a color commentator, because it’s a lot harder than some people think in being a color commentator, and to be perfectly honest, I understand Michael Cole’s anger, because Cole has been criticized as an announcer since he first worked for the WWE; however, he is supposed to be a professional and instead of being a professional he portrayed himself what he truly is, a jackass.

Let me ask Michael Cole something, if a school teacher gets upset with his or her students does that school teacher call his or her students a ‘F’-head? No, because obviously it would get you fired, it’s unprofessional, and quite frankly it’s childish. It amazes me how a 40 year old man like yourself would get so fired up just because a fan says “you suck.”

Is it the fan’s fault that you’re on a second rate show in Smackdown? Let’s be honest, comparing Smackdown to RAW is like comparing Pepsi with Diet Pepsi, it’s kind of like the same thing, but only with a bad aftertaste. Is it the fan’s fault that you were voted “worst television announcer” by Dave Meltzer in 2001? Is it the fan’s fault that fans don’t respect you? If you believe your own hype as a radio talk show host as well as a genuine color commentator then there would be no need to retaliate. That is unless what the caller said was true, that you do indeed suck.
