Travel Time

James Wood
Suppose you had a 42-year-old friend come up to you and say, "I'm going to take a trip to my 21st birthday party, would you like to come along?" Well now, that will take some thought and my first question would probably be, "Can you really do that?" My friend may be sure that he can but it would take a lot of documentation for me to be convinced that it is possible.

There has been a lot of talk on the Web about time travel. Some of it seems to be founded on the idea of a "space time continuum". I believe that this is an out growth of Relativity. I went to the Wikipedia Encyclopedia and took this extract on this topic, "In relativistic contexts, however, time cannot be separated from the three dimensions of space because it depends on an object's velocity relative to the speed of light, and also the strength of intense gravitational fields which can slow the passage of time." I admit, up front, that I do not have a good working understanding of Special or General Relativity and this concept appears to find its support in those theories. It is not easy to grasp the idea that tine will be different at different locations for different people. Usually I think of time as part of our organic makeup that determines we will get old gradually and consistently until we expire. The method we use to tell time is simply related to the Earths period of rotation as it revolves around the Sun. If this had been slower we would have more hours in our dasys and possibly, when all of the mathematics was worked out, a different number of minutes to the hour. There is nothing sacred about our method of telling time. Evey planet has a different rotation period and a different length of the year.We assume that our method of determination is good for all and everything everywhere. For our purpose it is. We only want to calculate the speed at which time passes for us.

Suppose you lived in the vicinity of an intense gravitational field. They say that in that event time would pass slower for you than 'normal time'. How would you know that? For you it would be your measure of time and you would not know that there was any other measure of time that moved faster than your time. Or, suppose that you lived on a run-away planet that was traveling through space at close to the speed of light and your 'time' would be slower than our 'normal time'. You would not know it. The question, for me, is would our bodies know it? Would we actually live longer in an area of slower time?

The Earth does not travel at the same velocity in its orbit around the Sun so we use the mean, or average, velocity for determining distances traveled. Johannes Kepler worked out the Law that a planet in an eliptic orbit will orbit the Sun covering equal areas in equal time. This means that even though the point farthest from the Sun will contain a larger area than the area of the orbit closest to the Sun the speed of the orbiting objects will change. Think that the Earth was 86 million miles from the Sun on the closest side and 100 million miles on the farthest side. Kepler is telling us the Earth will move faster covering the side with the longest radius. The end result is that we can use the average velocity, as if it was a circle, in our calculations. It also means in real time that Earth's traveling about 19.24 miles per second during the long leg and about 17.84 miles a second during the short leg, for an average of about 18.5 mps. I know there is only a little difference here but there are times when Earths velocity is a litle closer to the speed of light. Does this mean there is an infantesimle bit slower passage in the speed at which time travels? Some has been planets, like Pluto, with extreme orbital difference, would likely show a much more pronounced difference in its orbital velocities. So, on ths point, in the absence of infinitely fine measuring devices I can only say that over the years I have felt that some days were longer than the shorter days were!

Now in the meantime our friend has traveled back to his 21st birthday party and was surprised to see that no one was at home, there was no home. Why would that be? There is no point to time travel that fails to recreate the old events we are looking for. From my standpoint it seems that time travel requires a kind of ribbon of images to be created as we move through time and then, on demand, we call up past events so we can join in and re-live them again. If you really are traveling back in a living time with live action people, then, at my friends birthday party, he would be both the birthday boy and the uninvited guest. How weird? I do not believe that any scientist thinks that every day of our past continues to live on, not like a recording or a movie, but as a live action event. Where is all the information stored. How do we bring to life things that have gone away. A Christmas tree all lit up on Christmas day is burned on New Years day. Shall we step through the days nad return our tree to full bloom? You may suspect I do not favor such a view. There is so much written on this subject that I have not read I take the risk of repeating parts of the thoughts of others unknowingly. What I write is of my own creation and if it seems similar to others it is pure co-incidence.

So, let's talk about the prospect of real time travel. This requires multiple Dimensions. Say we live in D2 and everything there is normal for us and we get along just fine. We know where yesterday and tomorrow are and what is happening in between. Suppose that in D1, another Dimension, every thing is the same as in D2 but one day earlier. They know where their days are. They-we live normal lives doing all the things that we are doing in D2. If we are to try time travel we might go from D2 to D1 and we will see what we were doing yesterday, a kind of mirror image one day old. If you lived on D1 you can travel to D2 and see what is happening tomorrow. This is all logical as long as you believe that there are multiple Dimensions and that we will some day travel between the Dimensions. There have been a few contacts reported between humans and aliens wherein the aliens made some communication with the Earth person. One involved what was described as an alien 'child' playing with Chinese children a long time ago. The alien is alleged to have told the children that a new dynasty would take control of the area in the years to come, and later on it happened. In another instance the alien commented that he would like to take a rifle back with him but was not permitted to do so. This is a sparse bit of evidence and not anywhere what would be required so support an argument that the Earths visitors were time traveling. We will not know as long as the visitors continue to tell humans meaningless lies.

If there are numerous Dimensions, as some like to think, then the opportunity to broaden you time travels will be enhanced. My point here is that the time you wish to travel to must be real and currently in existence, which is possibly only in the presence of other active Dimensions. I do not expect to have a large following for my views but that is the way I see it. If the current and past visitors to Earth are actually time travelers we could start to reason it out by considering the technology they display and make our own estimate as to how far ahead of us they must be. How long will it be before we can hope to emulate their machines? 100 years, 150 years, or possibly never? Actually, it could be next week. There is very likely a simple technological advance that will help us escape our gravitational lock and permit us to make long strides in space travel and possibly for travel between dimensions. If we hope to accomplish these goals we must first recognize that they exits and they are worth our hard work to achieve.

I am well aware that the suggestion that the so-called UFO's are real will be poorly received by many academics. It is not pleasant to spend your life in the study of science and then find that our best knowledge may be child's play for other societies that come to Earth, and go away again, with indifference. The evidence is so strong for the presence of visitors that I find it hard to understand the reluctance to accept it by some. The repeated argument that there is no hard evidence, no parts of a spacecraft and no objects that were left behind by the visitors is fallacious and open to debate. Burned grass at landing sites and indentations left by landing gear are real traces that are left behind. The testimony of people from all walks of life should be more than enough proof and lets not forget that you can be convicted of murder by less documented evidence and this can happen even in the absence of a body; no physical body of the alleged victim.
