Is John McCain Just Sunning Himself

Ken Hughes
Is John McCain just sunning himself while the two democrats pile dirt on each other? That certainly seems to be the case, in sports this would be what is called an advantage for McCain. There´s little need for him to campaign at this point. McCain could climb Mount Everest or rob a bank and the media wouldn´t notice or report it. John McCain´s been benched as far as gaining any media attention so why not do the smart thing and sit it out for a while, at least until he knows who his opponent will be in the general election.

The more pressure put on Hillary Clinton the deeper she´ll dig in her heels and tough it out. Hillary Clinton is not a quitter nor is she easily intimidated. There´s an old saying that men who seek the presidency must have fire in their bellies. Hillary Clinton has a volcano boiling down there. She´s a long way from being beaten regardless who says she has no chance of winning the Democratic nomination, the Clinton´s usually surprise us.

McCain can thank both Clinton and Obama for having striped the Kevlar protection [race and gender] from them-selves. In the fall McCain will be free to point out any flaws in his opponent´s character and not be challenged as a racist or a sexist depending on who wins. Obama and Clinton have covered those subjects already.

I have a friend who´s diehard liberalism is beyond understanding, in her world Karl Marx´s would have been a right-wing conservative. She´s suggesting Al Gore come riding in on a White Fluffy Cloud and save the Democratic Party. She´s convinced John Edwards will be someone´s vice presidential partner. My friends political experiences began with George McGovern, She hasn´t gotten over his loss. I point this out to show just how far Democrats are willing to go backwards to try and save their political rear-ends.

As entertaining as this Clinton / Obama cat fight is it can´t be all that interesting to the voters. From my observations the voters are beginning to get turned off. Several lifelong Democrats have told me they´re taking a serious look at McCain as their choice for president. This election boarder´s on the classis of comedy and tragedy, there´s enough happiness and heartbreak for a dozen elections.
