Smooth Treadmill Review - A Solid Performer!

Fred Waters
Smooth Fitness started selling treadmills online back in 1997. At the time, the business consisted of a few fitness equipment retail stores in the Philadelphia area. Being the first to offer quality treadmills online, they cut out a niche and grew into major player in ecommerce sales of fitness equipment.

With their success online, they got out of the retail business, and are primarily an Internet company. Currently they are the 11th largest e-retailer in the sporting goods category. Considering whom they compete against, that is rather impressive.

There are several reasons why Smooth treadmills grew in popularity and in sales…

Quality – They build solid and durable machines. You will find their treadmills are equipped with quality components, and are engineered to last, and that is one of the most important features you want in a treadmill.

Durability - Treadmills take a beating. When you consider how they are constantly subjected to endless impact from walkers, joggers and runners, it is amazing they last as long as they do. However, not all treadmills are the same, and certain brands are not known for the longevity. Smooth treadmills have a good track record. It isn´t perfect, but no brand is. Still, their treadmills tend to last.

I talked to the head of their service department and asked what were some of their most common service issues. He said, the majority of their calls were related to shipping questions, and in general, they had few service calls.

Value – Another factor that makes Smooth treadmills attractive is their price. Depending on their current sales, you can usually find some great value. For example, the Smooth 5.25 Treadmill, which usually sells for around $1,000 with shipping, comes with a 2.5 hp motor, 20" wide treadbelt, a very forgiving shock absorption deck and 2" rollers. In addition, you get lifetime coverage on the motor, and a 3-year parts and 1-year labor warranty. Although, the most impressive features is that this is a very reliable machine. You can´t say that for many treadmills in this price range.

Customer Service – When you buy a treadmill, you want to consider not only the machine, but also the company that stands behind it. Although Smooth treadmills tend to require less servicing, they still will have their occasional service issues, or you may have questions requiring the maintenance or operation. In general, the Smooth Fitness customer service department tends to be very responsive.

Smooth Fitness offers some of the best value for a treadmill. They are neither the cheapest or the most expensive, they are just a good bang for your buck.
