Horse Grooming

Samantha Jane
Grooming removes dead skin cells and clears dried sweat ducts, allowing the skin to function more effectively. Cleaning the skin also helps prevent skin diseases which are encouraged by a dirty condition. For example, careful cleaning and drying of the legs will help prevent mud fever and cracked heels.

Vigorous grooming helps to increase blood circulation in the dermis, aiding the supply of oxygen and nutrient and the removal of waste products. The action also helps spread the sebum on to the skin and coat, producing a gloss to the coat. Close scrutiny of the coat will also reveal injuries and areas of heat, pain and swelling.
