In Defense Of John McCain

Is There To Much Media Speculation For Americas own Good?
Is the media here to report the news or create the news? There´s an article coming up on the Drudge Report asking if John McCain´s birth in a military hospital in the Canal Zone, [Panama] disqualifies him as a presidential candidate. As a former resident of Panama I was always told when we crossed the line from the Republic in to the Canal Zone we were on United States territory and subject to US laws, regulations and sanctions.
I thought this issue was settled with Mitt Romney´s father George Romney who was born in an American religious enclave in Mexico and Berry Goldwater who was born in the Territory of Arizona before it became a state, both men ran for president. Will some idiot question Obama´s birth place because Hawaii had only been a state 2 years and the ink hadn´t dried on the statehood papers yet when Obama was born or that he doesn´t qualify because he spent his youth in Indonesia. All are silly arguments.
John McCain is as American as George Washington who wasn´t born in the United States either. John McCain is an American citizen by birth and by deed. No man ever served his country with more dignity than John McCain. Anyone who questions John McCain´s citizenship doesn´t qualify to be called an American. John McCain isn´t one of my political heroes he is one of my Great American Heroes.
Why does the media do this, there are some stories that needn´t be written. Such stories have no probative value they´re what are know as fillers on a slow news day. Stories questioning McCain´s birthplace are going to cast unreasonable doubt on his qualification to those thousands who never get past the headlines to the substance of an article. Considering the subject has been settled in the past with other candidates why would it come up again?
A million words could have been written about the McCain family going back two generations to John´s father and grandfather both Admirals in the US Navy who served with distinction. John McCain´s father ordered the bombing of Hanoi knowing his son was a prisoner of war and the bombs may fall on him. It was his duty and he preformed it. Men like the McCain´s don´t cut and run when the going gets tough. They are neither Clintons or Obama´s.
The McCain´s know what America´s stood for over 200 years. The McCain´s know first hand the sacrifices Americans have made in defense of liberty.
I would never suggest the media be governed by a government regulatory agency a free nation is dependent on a free press. What I will suggest are the editors of the various media outlets do some soul-searching and start editing with some degree of honesty. It´s time for some on the job training in the responsibility a free press owes its readers. It´s time for a reporter´s bias to remain silent and let the facts speak for him / her.
I will not vote for John McCain for president, I will write in a candidate as a protest to current Republican policies. Neither will I stand by and remain silent while a true American hero is besmirched over such a trivial matter simply in the name of partisan politics.
