Professional ethics of journalism should be protected

Ethio Boy
Last week Ethiopian government invited international media journalists who based in the country to visit Somali National Administrative Region also called Ogaden, which is one of the Federal States of that country. The media professionals visited different development projects and had unbounded contact with residents.

After the guest journalists finished their planed tasks, a journey to Addis Ababa, which is the capital of the federal government, was the next step. This was the plan of the reporters and the host body, but among the guests the correspondent of CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR media missed from the group Members. While all the journalists returned to Addis Ababa, The missed one remained in unknown place. The Police has found him after tough search in his hotel room. The police told him to join his friends as soon as possible.

He ignored the advice and try to involve in illegal activities against his professional ethics. He met with members of ONLF to go to countryside in order to accomplish his mission-compiling false stories in favor of ONLF. But security forces unveil his secret plan with the terrorist group.

This journalist not only violated his professional ethics but also he endangered the national security of Ethiopia and broke the rule of law by staying in Jijjiga which is the capital of the region and by trying to contact with members of the terrorist ONLF.

Since he (the correspondent of Christian Science Monitor) committed these all crimes, the government of Ethiopia should take legal measure to protect the rule of law in the country and to teach people who sell their profession to fill their stomach not to participate on this kind of stupid activities.
