Have you seen those tiny bottles of anti-aging creams that go for over $100 bucks a scoop? If you´re ready for the real deal on anti-aging, spend less money on over-hyped wrinkle creams and spend more money on proven anti-oxidant rich foods.

An antioxidant rich diet is the cheapest youth elixir on the market. You´ve probably heard about the magic of vitamins A, B, and C, now its time to consider the anti-aging wonders behind the co-enzyme glutathione.

Glutathione is made up of three amino acids- glutamate, glycine and cysteine. Enzymes use glutathione to prevent oxidative damage and cancer. Glutathione protects against UV damage that can result from cysteine destruction.

Moreover, glutathione is so important to optimal health that Stanford researcher Leonard Herzenberg reported, "We know low glutathione indicates a bad prognosis for survival for HIV patients."

But what makes glutathione such a star anti-aging nutrient? In short, glutathione acts as an antioxidant life preserver.

Vitamins and enzymes are chemicals made of atoms, and swarming with electrons. When neutralizing free radicals, vitamins, like vitamins C and E for instance, can loose some electrons. Consequently, the vitamin itself then becomes a radical.

Then glutathione moves in and gives its electrons to the vitamins, thus making the vitamins whole again and able to continue their attack on radicals. Now, glutathione itself becomes a free radical. To make this free radical destruction mission complete, the body deploys an enzyme to convert glutathione back into an antioxidant.

How Do You Get More Glutathione In Your Diet?

In May of 2003, researchers at Ohio State University found that treating prostate cells with whey protein elevated glutathione levels in the cells by up to 64 percent.

Kyle Kent, a graduate student who helped conduct the study explained that, "cysteine is the amino acid that helps create healthy glutathione levels in the prostate, and glutathione helps keep free radicals under control."

You can get cysteine in foods like poultry, wheat and eggs.

Fresh green, yellow and red vegetables also boost significant amounts of glutathione. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, yellow and red peppers and arugula are excellent sources of glutathione.

Sometimes spending an extra $10 on fresh, organic fruits, vegetables and meats might seem impractical.

Deciding where to spend your money on anti-aging goods can be bewildering- $200 worth of age-fighting foods or a spat of a $200 face cream. Wherever you decide to throw your green you already now which anti-aging method works for sure. Happy shopping.
