Google‘s 2007 Year-End Zeitgeist Sheds Light on the Year That’s Passing
Who was hotter in 2007, Britney or Lindsey? What stories sent people to their keyboards, for more, more, more info? And what about the candidates for Prez? Did people search more for info on Barack or Hillary? Let’s not forget the Wii, Xbox, or Playstation…which of these products did buyers want more?
We can only guess at the answers, but thanks to Google, real info about these things is available to all of us.
Just like us all, the folks at Google are looking back at 2007, to get a feel for what we were thinking about. They are mining “billions of search queries” to “see what rose to the top.”
Ok, so gossip is fun, but is there any practical reason to know this stuff? If you run a business there is. And here I’m talking about an eBay or Amazon business.
Knowing what’s captivating people these days is a big part of your job. It’s info that should help drive your decisions about which products to source, for example. Of course, there’s lots of other data available to you, like your own sales stats, but also check out this free info from Google. http://www.google.com/intl/en/press/zeitgeist2007/index.html
