1st Annual Bawcomville Redneck Christmas Parade is a Success

The first annual Bawcomville Redneck Christmas Parade left Riser Middle School’s parking lot promptly at noon Saturday as spectators lined Smith Street with great anticipation. Prior to the start of the parade, Jack Clampit of S&J Farm and Feed (aka Santa) arrived via helicopter to take his place at the rear of a surprisingly long line-up.

Since November 13, the number of participants ballooned from 10 to “an undetermined number”, event organizer Debbie Clampit said. “ Because so many people entered the parade today, I don’t know how many are participating.” If she had to put a number on it, she guessed “maybe 150”.

Participants included at least 2 dozen horses, a drove of motorcycles, high performance riding lawn mowers, hot rods, mud trucks, the National Guard, 18 wheelers, as well as large and small redneck floats

There was a musical float bearing a woman singing Christmas carols while playing the piano. Another float, pulled along by a tractor, was titled trailer trash, while another float, this one devised by Garrett Marsh ( of Tallulah, Louisiana) depicted a rednecks yard. It had an old junk car, a clothes line full of unmentionables, and even a redneck fireplace (a burn barrel) aboard. Even more impressive, and their proudest achievement of all was a “fully functioning, non-flushing out house”.

Many of the participants tossed candy, cups, stickers and toys to bright-eyed-waiting children as they passed. Clampit expressed her thanks and appreciation of those who have participated, and predicts an even larger turnout next year. "It’s for this reason we’d like the sheriff’s department to give us a longer parade route next year”, she stated.
