America Urges To Lead World Democracy
The United States is experienced as the most democratic country in the world. Here, the people have had the democratic hands to pick up and the democratic legs to stand up for. Understandingly, the people set free for their movement and freedom under the circumference of national constitution. The national law and order should be nicely functioned. Under regulations, every one must go and pay respect. Any violation of rule or law is not excused to anyone else. Even the president of the United States is not excused against the violation or accusation. For example, President Richard Nixon in the presidential election was accused of Watergate scandal and compelled to resign his presidentship. So no one is rid of attaining any bad work or scandal.
Historically, the United States seems the best freedom fighter for democracy and reformer of democracy too. Its war with British during 1977-1783 for freedom and independence can not be forgotten for building today’s America.
In Pakistan, President Gen. Pervez Musharraf declared de facto martial law as well as a state of emergency. The national constitution was suspended. Presently, Pakistan is out of civil law and order. Today the people’s eyes and mind of the world are in Pakistan and its political crisis.
The United States can not be stood by looking Pakistan’s crisis and democracy. Its ally must not be dictator, nor constitutional violator. Today Pakistan is in crisis and democracy in Pakistan is more in crisis.Recently, President Bush talked with General Musaraff and told him that Pakistan has to return to civilian rule, hold elections and step down as chief of the military .The United States has the principle of democracy as ‘ when you stand for your liberty, we will stand with you.’ The universal democratization is appreciated to the United States and followers of a genuine democracy. From the case of Pakistan, critics of America have raised the questions whether the US appreciates dictatorship or democracy in Pakistan. America’s current policy is strongly support to Pakistan’s democracy and civil rights.
At the height of cold war, we had looked upon the dictors Augusto Pinochet in Chile and Ferdinand Marcos in Philiippines. The logic is very simple that dictatorship is not allowed and likened by the people. Ultimately, the victory is governed or won by democracy and democratic people.
For example, once in Nepal King Gyanendra had tried to be a dictator in the provocation of democracy and went out of limits breaking people’s rights and constitution. The intellectuals, political pundits, advisors and even so-called royalists and followers criticized his wrong way chosen –dictatorship and attitudes. Later every one left him that he was in the blunder track - politics. At last, he was in a big miserable crisis than expected and compelled to leave his power and kingship -- everything because of the pressure or sea of the people against him. Now he as a head of the state and his kingship were suspended.
Understandingly, President Pervez Musharraf is a good and competent administrator to Pakistan among the corrupted politicians. Abroad, the conventional approach for legitimacy on his political exercise is searched for democracy. The past experience amply showed that martial law damages the country and people as a whole. Historically, Pakistan’s past leaders Zulfikar Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and Shariff were a trio of political mesmerists – aristocrats showing as populists- who bankrupted the country. In 1999 backing to the days of Mr. Shariff and Bhutoo, the country was $ 30 billion in debt and its credit scored was among the world’s worst position. During Musharraf ‘s regime the national economy has averaged 7 % annual economic growth over 5 years and the foreign direct investment is up more than tenfold. Now he must not go to the wrong track disturbing or ruining democracy and civil rights. The Bush administration brought him as a good ally to the United States in favor of war against terror. Mistakenly, Musharraf has lost his consensus and right way. Instead, he has gone to be like Marcos and Pinochet. Consequently he is losing his popularity in Pakistan.
Meanwhile Musharraf announced a timetable to hold national parliamentary elections by January 9 earlier than expected .The jailed politicians and human rights activists will be released free before the parliamentary elections to be held.
The best among the awful attempts, Musharaff has to timely come back to the civilian law and genuine people’s democracy. The United States has timely to suggest him to go under democracy and civil rights. The civil rule and democracy in Pakistan are necessary to back to Pakistan’s people.
Terrorism is a constant worry to Bush and Bush administration. To cope with terrorism, the United States provided $ 10 million aid to Pakistani government including military aid.
Hence, the United States urges to lead world democracy and its implication in those countries, where democracy, civil rights and freedom are in crisis.
