Boston City Officials Rename Government 'Christmas Tree' a 'Holiday Tree'

Boston city officials ignited a jihad when they renamed a giant tree in a city park a "holiday tree" instead of a "Christmas tree."

It's ironic to witness the spectacle of evangelicals complaining that a pagan symbol is not labeled a "Christmas tree."

The move drew an angry response from the usual suspects; Jerry Falwell immediately went on camera to demand that Boston change the name back.

"There's been a concerted effort to steal Christmas," Falwell told Fox Television. Falwell has seen "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" one time too many; there is no vast left wing conspiracy to steal Christmas.

Isn't Christmas all about giving to the less fortunate, instead of seeking the limelight over a trivial issue? Why doesn't Falwell spend his time and energy ministering to the poor?

Boston made the right decision. We live in a multi-cultural society and designating a tree on a city park as a "Christmas tree" is unconstitutional and divisive.

If Jerry Falwell is so gung ho about calling a huge phallic symbol "Christian", he should erect one in his home and call it whatever he wants.

Whether or not you agree with me, I hope everyone has a happy holiday season.
