Legislation Limits Soda and Junk Food in Public Schools
This legislation will make certain that California students will be offered healthier snacks, beverages and meals in the public school sector. The three Senate bills signed were:
Senate Bill 12 sets food nutrition standards for food served and sold in K-12 public schools.
SB 281 illustrates a framework to implement $18.2 million in the governor’s budget
to include more fresh fruits and vegetables I school meal programs.
SB 965 extends the ban on the sale of soda in public middle and high schools. The
new bill will not effect the sale of milk, juice- based, water and sports drinks.
