Channeling Voices From The Grid

Victoria Hardy
Got a strange voice in your head? Well, it seems to be all the rage these days. Channeling is making a comeback and becoming increasingly popular in the New Age communities and beyond. In the 1840s the Fox sisters opened the door on the phenomenon by claiming to channel the spirit of a murdered man, Charles Rosma and those girls unknowingly ushered in a new age of communicating with the unknown.

The list of those who claim to channel other beings is long and spans the years between then and now, but in the 1970s Jane Roberts brought the idea a little closer to mainstream. It is said that in the early 1960s while experimenting with a Ouija board a particularly active spirit, named Seth, came through and began speaking, soon though Ms. Roberts had no need of the board because she could hear the spirit in her head. And until the time of her death in 1984 Ms. Roberts continued her internal dialogue with Seth and was the author of an impressive number of books.

Also in the 1960s, Dr. Helen Schucman began hearing a voice in her head and the voice claimed to be Jesus. Previous to hearing the voice, Dr. Schucman was a rational woman, a Jewish agnostic and a scientist, but upon hearing the voice she dutifully dictated the words to her friend and boss, Dr. William Thetford. And Dr. Thetford went on to publish what is considered by many as the “New Age Bible” A Course In Miracles and it soon developed a cult following and to this day continues to be very popular.

Coincidentally, Dr. Thetford had connections with the CIA’s MK ULTRA project during the time he worked with Dr. Schucman and her world was turned upside down.
