How to Organize a Great Baby Shower

Roy Thomsitt
The arrival, or pending arrival, of a baby is an exciting time; and like many exciting times, a celebration is in order for many people, in many cultures. In the US, it is the baby shower that is the first formal celebration. Traditionally, the baby shower has been held in advance of the baby’s birth, but these days a post birth shower is not unusual.

If you have, or are about to plan a baby shower for a friend, and have never done so before, or have but are looking for new ideas, then the tips and suggestions in this articles may help you.

Setting The Date For a Baby Shower.

It is best to time the baby shower well into the second half of the pregnancy, and the 8th month of pregnancy, or at the earliest the 7th, are probably the best. However, there is no strict rule, but bear in mind that too early brings with it risks of problems with the pregnancy occurring after the shower, and too late increases the risk of a premature baby spoiling the best laid plans.

Sending Out Invitations

Baby shower invitations are normally sent out, or delivered, although in theory, for a small close knit group of friends, word of mouth could suffice. However, relying on word of mouth not only seems mean, but is also a missed opportunity for keepsake mementoes. Many people like to keep invitations for special occasions. So, on balance, it is best to buy, or print free from the internet, baby shower invitations.

Decorating the Shower Venue

Like any party, whether it is for a birthday, Halloween or some other occasion, it is good to put up some baby shower decorations, and decorate the home, or other venue, in an appropriate way. This can be kept simple, and you will find the supply of ready made decorations far less than for Christmas or Halloween. However, a congratulatory banner, a centerpiece for the table, and some special balloons with a baby shower design and message, are probably enough for a happy Mom-to-be.

Feeding the Guests

The effort and budget that can go into the baby shower food and drinks can vary greatly, and is very much a personal choice of those organizing the party, and what they think the future Mom will appreciate the most. If you are providing food , other than a cake, then a buffet style meal is probably the best option. That will help to keep the occasion relaxed and friendly, keeping the mood for a few games to add to the fun.

Baby Shower Favors

It is customary nowadays to present baby shower favors to the guests, as a small memento of the occasion. You can make these yourself, or buy a ready made favor with a printed message. Examples are honey, chocolate, tea or candy favors.

Once you are organized, have a great baby shower.
