Genital Warts Treatments

Richard Sutter
There are those who believe that warts treatment is not necessary because the symptoms tend to go away on their own after a while. Then there are those who also feel that because this disease is caused by a virus, and so cannot be ever removed from the body (the symptoms tend to re appear even after they are gone), a treatment is not the answer. Though these facts are right, but these people cannot be more wrong. Warts treatment is indeed required – research says that in both men and women, genital warts can even lead to cancerous growths. And so, not only is it important, but it is actually essential to seek warts treatment as early as possible.

Genital warts treatment options can be broadly classified as…

Treatment through medicines

Treatment by surgery

Home remedies

Treatment through medicines: There are quite a few anti-viral oils and topical applications that can fight the virus to successfully eradicate the symptoms. These medicines attempt to enhance the natural immunity of the body so that the virus that causes the ailment can be deactivated. Also, in the presence of a strong immunity, the triggers that bring back the symptoms can also be avoided. The warts are taken out from the root upwards, and that too without any burning sensation or skin irritation. Then there are those medicines that try to destroy the tissues of genital warts. Such medicines are Imiquimod (Aldara), Trichloroacetic acid (TCA), a 0.5% podofilox solution and many others.

Treatment by surgery: Normally surgery is not recommended to remove the warts, but sometimes it may become necessary. Often pregnant mothers prefer surgery because they do not prefer medicines for the fear of affecting the yet to be born baby. Using a liquid nitrogen to freeze the warts, also referred to as cryotherapy, is a popular genital warts surgery option. When this is done a blister gets formed and when it heals, the warts get removed. Often many sessions are needed. Then there is Electrocautery, wherein electrical current is used to burn the growths. Laser treatment is another line of treatment in which laser is used to solve the issue. But laser treatments are costly and thus prohibitive. There is also the conventional surgery where the surgeon will cut the warts from the body with the aid of local anesthesia.

Home remedies: Home remedies can involve keeping the place clean by washing it with warm water at least 2 to 3 times daily. However never rinse it dry. Use a soft towel to gently soak the water. Wearing lose clothing is also a good idea as tight clothes can even make them bleed. And never press or pick the warts.

Genital warts treatment can also including counseling as this disease can have social implications – it can cause some embarrassment and a strained relationship between the partners.

But there is hope for everyone, because now some wonderful medicines are available which has made genital warts treatment easier than it was even say a decade back.
