The Changing of the Guard in Washington

Dana G. Smith
The Lame duck season is upon us. That is the unequalled time when men go to Washington and get nothing done. The new congress taking over shortly in the coming New Year, there seems little reason to have a congress for that little of time. But they go anyway. Posturing and puffing, they all want to seem important. With the elections over, the public has spoken. The problem is, according to past history, the congress never seems to be listening when the public speaks.

This is evident with the change of congress back to more Democratic power. According to Howard Phillips, the Chairman of The Conservative Caucus, there were definite reasons why the Republican’s lost the elections. In an outline of the Republican abuses he listed the following:

advocacy of amnesty for illegal aliens,

failure to enforce existing immigration laws which require penalization of corporations which hire illegal aliens,

promotion of a North American Union (NAU) scheme to merge the United States with Canada and Mexico,

appointment of open homosexuals to key positions,

massive expansion of the Federal role in education,

increased funding of the United Nations,

expansion of foreign aid,

failure to move forward deployment effectively of a ballistic missile defense,

budget busting expansion of non-defense Federal spending and massive increases in annual deficits and the overall national debt, trade policies which have undermined America’s manufacturing base and placed millions of American jobs at risk,

approval of anti-family FDA policies such as authority for the distribution of RU-486 and over-the-counter sales of "morning after" contraceptives,

approval of threats to U.S. civil liberties, including elements of the Patriot Act,

signing into law the McCain-Feingold election regulation bill in clear violation of the first Amendment to the Constitution.

In this overview, we find that there are a lot of conservative policies that did not get adopted while Republicans led the charge for the last number of years. Many in conservative politics followed the Republican line, thinking that they would be obedient to their Christian ideologies and vote accordingly. The problem is, that did not happen.

Moreover, not only did many Republicans ignore the Christian right the last number of years; they along with Democrats did not guard our borders to secure our own lands from terrorists. Add to this the many blatant moves to tear down the America we know by the pushing of the North American Union, the Amero common currency move, or the Super highway. While we watched, Bush who was pushing his Christian identity moved to achieve his own world order. The problem is, many Americans are not at all happy with the thought of make America into a New World Order. Tearing down our legitimate nations heritages and rights so we can be swallowed up in this new ideal is a bad idea.

The problem we continue to have is with politician’s period. The more we send up to Washington, the more get infected with political stupidity. They forget who sent them there and why. They forget to guard the constitution. They forget the government is of the people, by the people, and for the people. Take for example the passing of HR 6054 Military Commissions Act by both house and senate. This little piece of legislation is so bad, our rights have been compromised. If you have not read up on this bill, then do so. We provide information on this bill on our website. The last number of years in Republican hands we have seen our rights go by the proverbial wayside. When we vote, being a republican or democrat is no guarantee America will continue to exist. If someone doesn’t wake up and follow the constitution, then we all will be in deep trouble.

The election is past; our next group of political leaders is set to get on the governing stage soon. Let us not forget that we the people need to keep them in line. The problem is, our government thinks the opposite. Check out the forefathers of our nation. They did not trust government. Let us not trust government either. We need to keep them in check. If we do not, our rights, privileges, and freedoms will be lost.
