8 Sizziling Tactics On Getting Traffic

Brice Mattson
Here are some known and little known tactics on getting traffic to your website or sales letter.

1. To sell a product or service to your prospective customer, you must first get them to visit your website. Advertising isn?t the answer, unless you are willing to buy expensive ads from search engines that will give you great placement in the search results list when a customer searches for one of your keywords. You are better served to focus on the search engines and directories. Most customers will only look at the first 2-3 links the search engines deliver in the search results list, so you need to be among the first few sites to get your customers? attention.

2. To add value to your website for customers and encourage repeat visits, you can place a link on your site to invite your customers to ?opt in? to get a monthly newsletter, valuable coupons, discounts and special offers. Add a link to ?recommend this site to a friend.? When the visitor clicks on this link, it will open an email with your website link embedded in the email message and a title that says something like ?Thought you might be interested in this.?

3. Don't pay a company to submit your website to search engines using an automated procedure because this technique often fails; search engines often ignore these submissions. Submit your site to these search engines and directories yourself, or pay someone to manually submit your site. You can also look into search engine advertising (using advertising programs like Google AdWord). It costs money but it ensures placement of your business name and website link in a visible position on the search engine page.

4. If you want to keep your search engine ranking high and keep the traffic coming to your website, you must stay on top of what your competitors are doing. While your competitors can hide their business plans and protect proprietary information, their website is out there for all to see ? including you! Identify your main competitors, then look at their websites and notice how they display and sell their products. See how they use content and keywords, and what titles they use for their pages. Notice their FAQs, return policies, shipping policies and choices and customer service links.

5. If you are unable to research and choose keywords and work on your own website search engine ranking, consider hiring someone to work with you on these issues. Search engine promotion and search engine marketing companies and individuals will look at your plan for your new or existing site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. They can also provide ongoing consultation and reporting to monitor your website and make recommendations for edits and changes to keep your site traffic flowing and your search engine ranking high. They should with your web designer to build an integrated plan right away so that all aspects of design are considered at the same time.

6. Have a page on your website where you can provide links to articles or information about products and services, the industry you are in or a topic related to something your customers want to buy or learn about. You can also provide a ?hot link? within your content to take your customers to another place on your website where they can find out more about the work or topic you are talking about in the content.

7. Don't think your work is done after you submit your site to search engine companies. The fact is, you have just begun! Website success takes time and effort. Even if you are recognized by a search engine, and your ranking is high one day or during a given week, it may slip the following week because of new sites or because your competition changes its site to get a better ranking. You must continually monitor your rankings and become a Web Sleuth to keep your rankings high.

8. Create a policies page or a frequently asked questions (FAQ) page on your website that clearly defines your philosophy and principles when dealing with your customers, i.e., return policies, how quickly you respond to inquiries, etc. Post your privacy policy on this page as well so clients know their information and identity are secure when they visit your site.

If you use these tactics on a regular basis then traffic to your site/sites is immenant. Just watch your stats counter spin out of control!!
