A Puzzle Named Iran

John H. Adler
The people of Iran are like most people in the world. They are basically one of the most westernized peoples in the Middle East. But all this is now well-covered under long robes and veils. A brutal Islamic government, aided by the military which they control, has been able to suppress and subjugate their country. In the face of naked dictatorship, the people of Iran are prisoners in their own homeland.

Their President, a puppet under the complete control of the clergy, the true leaders of Iran, is playing a game with the West. There is no doubt in my mind that Iran will be successful in building atomic weapons. They have absolutely no intention of ceasing to stop the enriching of uranium for the sole purpose of building an atomic bomb.

What is going to happen if, and when, they achieve their goal?

More blackmail and more threats of terrorism. Can you imagine atomic weapons in the hands of terrorists? Iran is one of the suppliers and propagators of international terrorism.

Iran’s on again/off again signals to stop the building of weapons of mass-destruction are nothing but stalling techniques. In reality, they are leading the West around by our collective noses. Thanks to our misadventure in Iraq, we are in no position to threaten them militarily. So, why extend the carrot when there is no stick to enforce threats? Let’s face it: At this stage, we are powerless, and Iran is going to do as it pleases.

Look at what happened with North Korea. We were unable, or rightly unwilling, to use force and, unfortunately, diplomacy is not our strong suit. They have been blackmailing us for years. We offered and delivered food based on their promise to stop the development of atomic arms. What did the promises get us? Nothing but contempt! It is embarrassing to watch the free world standing by as smaller nations reject our advances while arming themselves to the teeth. Could it be that they are showing contempt for our leadership?

You be the judge.
