ABC: Path to 911
While it is evident to me that this presentation was a drama where the script was dramatized for entertainment, the truth is that if 50% of what was displayed is factual, then we should understand that our government failed the American people not only on 911, but in 1993 as well. The problem is that I do not believe it has gotten much better in 2006, borders and ports ring a bell?
ABC’s path to 911 shows very clearly that our own arrogance and blind concern for money instead of lives lead to the bombing and the eventual destruction of the World Trade Centers. Today, this same arrogance and blind demigod attitude of our government has spread like a cancer with visions of world dominance. And now with Iraq talking with Iran, is it not clear that America is in a very dangerous situation where only a lose-lose outcome is possible.
Path to 911 also shows that, while I hate to admit it but it is the job of a journalist to present the facts, President Bush’s plan to have all of the agencies around the country be able to gather information across a broad spectrum and share that information was the proper plan. I think in this case, if the President had presented the truth to the American people to decide a course of action, I feel America would have weighed all of the facts and made the right decision. America is not afraid of what the government would learn from reading our mail, just what they would do with it.
Bottom line, good entertainment but not to be included in the history books.
