´Sister cities´ twins Santa Cruz de California with one of the most important cities in the Atlantic.

Young Spanish artists from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located in the Canary Islands, will show their work in three Californian galleries.

The art exhibition ´Sister Cities´, promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands, in Spain, will visit three of the most important art galleries in Santa Cruz de California: Lulu´s@MAH; Porter Faculty Gallery and Felix Kulpa Gallery and will be opened to the public for one month.

This multidisciplinary exhibition, which includes sculpture, photography, painting and video, shows how science influences in our view of the world through art and affects personal habits.

In exchange, a group of Californian artists from Santa Cruz, leaded by curator Shelby Graham, will take their work to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, one of the two capitals of the Canary Islands and an artistic reference in the Atlantic, in between America, Africa and Europe.

Therefore, Santa Cruz de California and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 9.400 kilometers apart and twin cities since 1974, strengthen their bonds through this intercultural exchange launched by the Canary Islands Septenio Plan, this year dedicated to the Sky, which encourages culture, science and innovation and tries to export the cultural values of the Canary Islands abroad and spread them worldwide.

Artist and curator Miriam Durango has chosen for this exhibition artists like Alby Álamo, Ángel Padrón, Claudio Marrero, David Ferrer, Fernando Larraz, Israel Pérez y María Requena, José Barrios, Óscar Hernández y Beatriz Lecuona, Pérez & Joel and Laura Benavente.
