Los Angeles - The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) has endorsed Norma Macias for El Monte City Council. Macias is running for one of two council seats in the upcoming November 3, 2009 election in El Monte. LALCV has also endorsed Andre Quintero, who is running for Mayor of El Monte.

"Norma is a committed environmentalist who has demonstrated a full understanding of the environmental issues facing El Monte," said Mitchell Schwartz, President of LALCV. "Her job in South El Monte is to make recommendations on open space and other sustainability issues, which gives her extensive experience in finding solutions to city environmental challenges."

Macias has a Masters Degree in architecture and is employed by the Department of Engineering in the City of South El Monte, where she oversees many developments and makes recommendations regarding open space, landscaping and sustainability. She is a successful grant writer and would bring that expertise to obtaining private and government grants for various projects in El Monte. Macias ran for City Council two years ago, finishing a very close third.

El Monte is in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley bordered by the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel Rivers, in the heart of what is popularly known as the Emerald Necklace, a 17 mile loop of rivers, greenbelts, parks, wildlife habitat, bike paths and flood control areas in the San Gabriel Valley.

The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters is dedicated to endorsing and supporting candidates who are committed to preserve, protect and enhance the environment throughout Los Angeles County. Throughout its 20 year history LALCV has helped elect more than 100 environmental leaders to local offices throughout Los Angeles County.
