Intelli-Gel Mattress vs Memory Foam?

Robin OBrien
For years, memory foam held the title of the best mattress material on the market. But that title is being challenged by a relatively new arrival on the scene, Intelli-Gel. The two share science as their origin, and you might think they are very similar at first glance, but the differences between the two types are nearly as pronounced as the differences between memory foam and innersprings. Intelli-Gel can be safely considered as the newest generation of mattress materials, and it is very quickly gaining widespread acceptance in private homes as well as medical and clinical institutions.

An Intell-Gel Mattress is made with columns of gel material which, instead of forming the majority of the mattress area, form small outlines of shapes, known as cells. These cells are basically empty air, with all of the support provided through a latticework of gel lines, and this empty space is the single largest cause of all the commotion. You see, the problem with a mattress has always been to reduce the surface area required in order to support the body's weight comfortably, and Intelli-Gel is the best solution to come along so far.

In a direct competition of Intelligel vs memory foam, there is almost always a clear and early winner. Where Intelli-Gel has many of the features inherent to memory foam, it also addresses the drawbacks of memory foam mattresses successfully. The biggest memory foam complaint is that heat builds up around the body and results in uncomfortable sleep or even night sweats. Intelli-Gel's empty space design allows airflow around the body, and promotes removal of excess heat. This is one documented medical use, and it works very well with burn patients.

Another comparison of Intelli-Gel with memory foam would be to look at how long the mattress is expected to remain useful. Memory foam tends to show wear over a period of around 10 years, and may need replacement in less than 15 years. Intelli-Gel, however, has an expected deterioration of around 20 years, and there is not yet enough actual data to determine how long it takes until replacement is required.

According to Intelli-Gel mattress reviews, there is really not much in common between the two with the exception of being scientifically developed. Just as Memory foam and natural latex foam rise above traditional innerspring mattresses, Intelli-Gel takes the best that memory foam can offer to the next level.

Unless cost is the issue being considered, and in that situation, the Intelli-Gel mattress is the one that gets left out. Memory foam mattresses may be about half the price of an Intelli-Gel mattress. And while this seems to be a clear number, remember that the Intelli-Gel may last for twice as long, and that bring the overall cost of owning Intelligel vs memory foam to a nearly equal footing.
