Castle HOT new Series, D1Jatropha Leader Flees, Snowe Key to YOUR Healthcare Future

"I am sorry."

Those were the words that ended a television season premiere this week. It may be trivial in the larger scheme of things what writer wrote what or what actor said what line in what television program, but the general topic is a significant part of our national economy, and a very significant part of our national exports. Exporting "intellectual property" is actually one thing the United States does better than any other country, at least in terms of total volume. Although, like many other fields, China and India (or as Vinod Khosla likes to call them "Chindia") have not been slow to recognize the combinations of high prices for "goods" that cost relatively little, as well as the "repeatability" of sales, to subsequent markets and media. It's a good business to be in.

My Personal "I'm Sorry"

In my case, my "I'm sorry", and it is a sincere one, is that I did not manage to enter my column on time this week, and even though it is late, it is likely to be short. You see, for the last several days I have been too sick and too weak to even read a computer screen, much less put together anything comprehensible. I may tell you more details at some future time, but since my endurance is being taxed already, I'm switching to the urgent demands of US Politics, with apologies to those to do not find this to be the most important or fascinating of topics. But FIRST, some BIG news!

Sometimes "I'm Sorry," is Enough

Sometimes it is all that you can hope to obtain. Reconciliation type court appearances by self-confessed villains of certain African countries brutal, even murderous political upheavals have actually had a significant calming effect. Reportedly sometimes even neighbors who committed atrocities on the family next door are living in a state of requiem. Sometimes, however, we expect better because we have systems of laws and systems for justice that allow us to expect better.

I do not know all the circumstances surrounding the situation, but here is a snippet from an email from someone that was the head of, at one time, recently, believed to be the world's largest developer of jatropha curcas plantations intended to produce Raw Jatropha Oil (RJO) as feedstock for biodiesel. "I have now left D1 Oils plc under the current restructuring. If your enquiry is urgent please contact Craig Leversha on +44 (0)20 7367 5600, email cleversha@d1plc.com. My D1 email will be operational for the next few weeks to cover off any outstanding business. However, I will be out of the country and not checking email from 12 September to 26 September." This appears to have gone out to nearly everyone on Mr. Graham Prince's email address book.

The gentleman who passed this on to me (and a group of others) commented, "... one has to feel that the use of £120,000,000 GBP 04-date could have been used for much more productive purposes." That is an understatement that I can get behind with a great deal of empathy.

US Health Insurance Reform

If you would like to support that additional broadcasts of this ad, either in Senator Snowe's home state of Maine or elsewhere, you might try visiting, this site. I am inclined to think that Senator Snowe will realize how important the MEANINGFUL healthcare insurance reform is and how necessary to that end that a not-for-profit option with national weight and clout must be, but I think it wouldn't hurt to let the rest of the nation, most of whom are in favor of healthcare insurance reform, including a "public option" (72% according to an recent ABC poll), know that we are with them, and that we need their support to make it happen.

Entertainment News

There's a "new kid" in town, or rather, perhaps more like a new sheriff on the beat in Hollywood, which is a pretty good trick for a young lady living in NYC. Nevertheless, viewer, observer, reporter and box office follower are just some of the titles that stick to Grace Randolph who seems to be enjoying a whole other career as a comic book writer for BOOM Studio (under contract to produce "Muppet" comic books, including a whole series based on 'Muppet Peter Pan'). Now before I distract you too far with all her other talents, Grace gives good reviews. Her regular (semi-regular) column is called "Beyond the Trailer" and some box office oriented episodes are subtitled "Movie Math". Look for those tags and you are likely to get some worthwhile insights.

Sorry - Happy Thoughts

Today, being an abbreviated column (ignoring most of the political turmoil at the UN and elsewhere) my "happy thought" to end upon is also my quick opinion of a movie mogul and his latest accomplishments. Stephen J. Cannell has been a writer and producer in Hollywood for decades now. He has been a "best-seller" author for almost as long, and he has not won any great load of literary praise along the way, but Mr. Cannell rarely fails to satisfy with good, fun entertainment (long on violence, explosions and "fire-gags" as they call them in the movies, but not gratuitous blood and gore). This note, then, is a "thank you," to Steve for still being "in business", putting out his latest televisions series, Castle. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic both are doing superbly as the leading characters Richard Castle and Detective Kate Beckett. Weekly turns from the always wonderful Susan Sullivan as Castle's mother, and the glowing young face of actress Molly C. Quinn are now often accompanied by scenes of Stephen Cannell playing himself, as another famous writer or mystery novels, along with poker playing buddies, the fictional Castle, and real life mega-star authors like Michael Connelly or James Patterson. Connelly, by the way, has really taken a "shine" to the series, even writing the scene in which he appeared, and has also participated in a promo video that pretends that Rick Castle really is a real-life writer who is part of their normal glamorous lives. Check out that video below.

Love and warm wishes,

Sincerely,
